hotis300boy 06-13-2010 02:06 PM

custom rom or?

Nice. I put Fresh on mine last night as well. I was using DCv3 but Fresh seems to be the most stable and removed all the Sprint bloatware and still left the apks on the sd card for easy install. NiiiiicE!

Did you accept that new update or did you not get it push to your phone yet?

KingCoop 06-13-2010 03:27 PM

Currently I'm just using unrevoked to run Wireless Tether.

What benefits would I get out of using the Fresh ROM rooted over what I currently have?

Besides the ability to remove the Sprint apps.

tallazzFilipino 06-13-2010 03:32 PM

it's weird how they say fresh removes a lot of sprint crapware. back when i fresh'd my hero, i noticed this:

flashing to factory 2.1 left 13X mb on internal space.
flashing to fresh 2.1 left 96mb on internal space.

huh?

oh, and fatboy.. nice seeds of life. sucks how it doesn't stay on the hero after waking from blank screen.

KingCoop 06-13-2010 03:33 PM

Also are you not able to update the device when HTC and Sprint releases updates?

Duffman 06-13-2010 03:55 PM

If you are a Fresh ROM user, you don't want updates from Sprint until the developer/hacker checks them out. I trust him more than the folks who push them out legitimately.

vWvstaticvWv 06-13-2010 09:50 PM

^^ Correct. Plus, i noticed in the Fresh rom, both the baseband and software ver are the latest...no need to update. I got that update when using a different rom and it broke root.

Fresh EVO 1.0.0 Comming Soon

Just in case anyone is interested Fresh ROM for the EVO will be officially released soon. It's available for testers and donators now. I'm flashing as we speak.

vWvstaticvWv 07-09-2010 12:13 AM

Noodle, what's in the chagelog?

Noodle 07-09-2010 12:18 AM

Changes from 0.5.3 to 1.0.0:

* Built off of the new 1.47.651.1 base!
* Updated apps2sd to DarkTremor 2.7 Update 3r1
* Updated Fresh Updater to 1.1
o Mostly just visual changes. Turning the “themes” tab in to patches + themes + tweaks tab. More to come on that.
o Make sure to Check the How To to setup and use Fresh Updater if you haven’t before.
* Removed FriendStream and Peep
o I had been leaving them in because people love FriendStream but they are such battery drainers that I chose to take them out. You can reinstall them through Fresh Updater.
* Made new boot.img containing the newest HTC kernel (789bf291)
* Updated boot screen thanks to wrx4memp — the “O” was made solid. While it wasn’t wrong in the first place and was the font he used, we agreed it would be better to just make it solid.
* Updated Launcher Pro to 0.6.6
* Updated Rom Manager to 2.0.0.5
* Updated Qik to 0.03.54
* Check the download links below for an updated radio and wimax image.

Noodle 07-09-2010 12:22 AM

I am playing around with it right now and some people are reporting not able to update Google Maps at the moment (I haven't tried yet)

I am getting a force close on trying to access Accounts & Sync but I think it's a bug since I had Peep installed and Twitter set to sync. Since he removed it in this beta I'm going to try reinstalling it and trying again.

If you have used Fresh 0.5.3 it has the Fresh Updater and you can reinstall Peep or Friendstream that way if you don't have a backup.

I'll post more as I find it but so far it's basically 0.5.3 with the 1.47 update included.

vWvstaticvWv 07-09-2010 12:22 AM

Niiiice! Thank you. Flipz always makes solid romz...I always wind up being torn between his and damage. I'm also eyeing the sense Froyo Ava got going. Good things, good things

Noodle 07-09-2010 12:53 AM

Just reinstalled Peep and it works fine now. (now to check the possible Google Maps update issue)

It seems if Peep or Friendstream were enabled and you don't do a wipe it F's up the Accounts & Sync access. You don't have to wipe first things still work fine just disable your syncing with Peep and Friendstream first or reinstall with the Fresh updater.

You use either.

I am interested to see how well it works with the OTA update. It will be nice to not have to wipe for a change.

<-- just switched to that AVA Froyo+Sense rom. It's amazing.

I was using Damage Control. Chances are Fresh will be the next one I try out if I get bored of this Froyo rom, but having Linpack hit 34-35 is sick.

vWvstaticvWv 07-09-2010 10:37 AM

^^ I'm waiting for the back cam to be fixed and i'm all on it! Shouldn't be too hard since they have the kernel. He already fixed the front cam. There's lil issues but it will be ironed out way before official Froyo.

one of my favorite things about Fresh is the HTC battery Widget Flipz incorporated into it for 0.5.3 and still for 1.0.0.

For some reason it won't load from a backup on even the Stock Rooted Rom but it's sweet because it is vertical and fits in a 1x1 spot.

noktekniq 07-10-2010 10:41 AM

how about a link to that 1.0.0 version of fresh.

But there are other widgets that are 1x1, so I'm not following why that is so special.

I am using BatteryTime Lite and it gives up 5-6 choices for icons you'd like to use and fits in a neat 1x1 cubicle.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying.

Is the battery % the same as I just loaded? I was thinking about the fresh toast kernel but went with netarchys instead very stable

th3taman 07-23-2010 07:56 AM

I need a new kernel but haven't had time to really read on them on XDA. I knew there was a ToastFresh kernel but it was still beta. Noodle, is the netarchys kernel on XDA too?

I'm looking for a kernel that's stable for the most part, and doesn't have a big impact on battery life. Been debating on switching over to SetCPU instead of using Overclock Widget.

Any suggestions from you guys running the latest Fresh (which I have installed) would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is the paper clock skin for Weather & Toggle Widget.

I like it but it doesn't update the weather quite as accurately as the stock sense one but it seems a lot of 3rd party weather widgets are having the same issue. Something to do with Google's servers.

It's the best so far for me for a Launcher Pro compatible one.

You can check which sensor you have using adb by issuing the following command: "adb shell cat /sys/android_touch/vendor" and examining the result. If your result is ATMEL_x0080_x0016, your phone can support 5point. If your result is ATMEL_x004F_x0016, your phone will only support up to 3point.
and I gots me a 5point display :-) I may have to go back to netarchy's 3.6.4 though was really stable for me but I'm not sure if it is the kernal or handcent that is now killing my battery. My Android system usually is pretty low and has been running in the high 28% range. Maybe I'll just drop handcent first and see. I had no problems with the stock messaging app.

th3taman 07-24-2010 02:34 PM

Handcent shouldn't have that big of an affect on your battery life. More likely the kernel. I have hesitated to updated my kernel because I want good battery life, stability, and speed. Don't really want to sacrifice any, but speed would probably go first.

There are so many posts on netarchy's kernel on XDA...just don't feel like reading them all. :(

to brick an android phone. the evo even moreso is near impossible the evo to brick it you would have to wipe out the recovery partition and the bootloader both to kill it.

i love how HTC gives you a method to load OSes in the bootloader it makes it impossible to ruin one. so you have no risk so try fresh now and go to cyanogen when final.. thats my plan :-)

You can flip back and forth easily. I use Titanium Backup for my apps and data. I spent the last few days on Cyanogen but it is still a bit to buggy, nice ROM though. I have went back to Fresh and will likely stay there until he gets 2.2 rolled in.

Noodle 07-25-2010 05:04 PM

Well I went back to netarchy's 3.6.4 with 3.7.3c my Cell Standby and Android system has gone from 28-30% each to 40%

Fat Tony 07-25-2010 05:54 PM

Are there any bugs in Fresh? My main uses are:

Voice search (I'd die without this, I travel constantly and it's great to say "Hooker" and bam! The phone will find a hooker).

Maps for the same reason as above

Gmail (I got like 20 accounts, without my email I am a dead man).

etc. The only advantage I see to rooting is free tether and some more batt life. Right now i got free tether with PDAnet and EZtether, so um.... seriously not trying to be a smart arse, what are the advantages of a custom rom other then Apps2SD, tether and...

Oh screw it. I'm doing it. I'll cry for help when I brick my Evo.

voice search is removed from the stock setup but it puts the APK on your sd card so its a quick install

no maps bugs

gmail works great

i rooted to remove the stock apps, control what starts up, overclock and more

Now, there is a quick 3 click root method for the OTA update, will that work for me or do I need to do the super long, typing commands, praying, sacrificing a chicken way?

BrettW 07-25-2010 06:15 PM

simpleroot OTA will work no problem.

I had similar concerns as well, but I went ahead and rooted using unrevoked3. Now that let me get Titanium Backup, WifiTether, Overclock Widget, but it doesn't unlock NAND so I can't flash any ROM I want. When I have more time on my hands, I plan on doing some reading on how to get NAND unlocked from here and then flashing a ROM (probably Fresh). I figure I'd have to do SimpleRoot OTA and then flash from there, but I heard after SimpleRoot, you lose the updated radios and I don't know if it's all a seamless process to reupdate everything. With unrevoked, there really weren't that many steps and Tool wrote up a great step by step for it.

OK, I know I am being a pain but....

When I go to download Fresh, it says I need the latest radio and WiMax thingy. Fine, I downloaded them and I read the instructions on how to install (they seem simple enough). My questions is: WHEN DO I INSTALL THE RADIO AND WIMAX THINGYS? Before the root and installation of Fresh or after?

Sorry for all the Q's.

if your phone got the OTA update you dont need to install them. thoes instructions are for thoes going from PRE-OTA roms to POST-OTA roms

Man this is NUTZ! I just did the simple root 4 clicks thing. Great, all is well.

How do I get Fresh rom on there? I downloaded it, it's on my PC. Is it with the Rom Manager?

put the rom on the root of your SD card and boot into recovery mode through hboot. Then just flash from recovery.

Make sure you wipe the dalvik cache and wipe the system first before flashing.

All can be done from recovery.

I did the easy root 4 click. I made sure I followed everything. It finished.

I installed a brand new card, with absolutely NOTHING on it.

I then use the phone as a disk drive, transfer the zip file to the SD card and try to use Rom manager. I hit FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD Recovery and I get an error saying "An error occured while attempting to run privi'd commands". OK, so no big deal.

I hit "reboot into recovery" and it asks me if I'm sure and I click yes, and nothing happens.

I hit "install ROM from SD card" and it says I need to have clockworkmod recovery installed.

So I go back to the easy 4 click tether. I go to extras then click flash recovery and I choose clockwork. I get the black screen, everything says it works right, then when I try to do the rom manager thing I get the same thing.

SCREW ROM MANAGER!

So I go back to the simple root. I click extras, hit "Flash recovery" and choose RA_Recovery. I get the green screen, and it can't load the file.

Where exactly do I put the ROM. THis is a clean SD card, never used. Nothing is on it.

How do I go into recovery mode other then with the simple root program?

I know I am being a neusance and I do appreciate all the help.

Power your phone down. Hold vol down and power to boot to hboot then use the vol + - keys to navigate and power to select.

With RA's recovery you have to have the zip in the root directory of the sd card. Try redownloading the ROM it sounds like it might be corrupted.

BTW I never use rom manager to flash roms unless it is a backup I have done. I always flash directly from recovery.

Thanks! I think the problem was the first file was corrupted. I downloaded from the mirror and went into recovery, file loaded up just fine.

I am in the black screen, files are up loading. Thank you guys for your help!

Um.... how long does it "FRESH" with the penguin and android? This has been going on like 25 times already. Is something wrong, this is the first boot.

Everything installed perfectly, I am now running FRESH!

One last question, I promise. How do I get VOICE SEARCH installed? I checked where the apks are at and in the installed programs, it's not there. Any help is appreciated with getting voice search to work with google maps again.
