I see many ads for free ringtones etc., how do these services work? Do they simply download to my phone?

more or less. look in the tips and tricks section, there is a thread in there that has a bunch of sites listed with FREE Ringtones. check out some of those sites and they will tell you how to get them on your phone. most of the time they send you a text with the ringtone, so your texting fees will apply, if you have a texting package there will be no extra charge.
