Everyone already knows this but I was told that if you want to save battery life on the a900 you should turn off GPS, lower the screen brightness down to 1 and turn the key tone off. I have all these and have saved about two days worth of battery time. That includes heavy talk time.

Instead of toning down your phone, spring for an extra battery and a car charger from ebay for 15 bucks for both shipped. The stuff doesn't need to be OEM to work. Most of the stuff from Sprint are mfg. at the same place as the cheap stuff. Just check the feedback of the seller.

Click on Menu/OK-->Settings-->Others-->Location
Read the text that pops up, select ok and then choose off. Bam! Your GPS is now off.

You should also have bluetooth off as well...
Having gps off will only prevent u from using a gps maps program if you rob a bank the police will still find you.
I noticed in power save mode the os runs super slow anyone else notice that... but power save realllllllyyyyyyyyy saves battery tho

So then you use your GPS Map 24 hours a day 7 days a week..? Turning off your GPS does save a noticeable amount of battery to your phone and it only takes less than 5 seconds to turn it back on and off.

I didn't see this posted (in this thread), and although I am sure it's well-known, I thought I'd add on anyway!!
If you receive a lot of phone calls/texts/picturemail, and you think your battery life is draining quickly, turn of the vibrate for incoming alerts, and over the span of 30+ text messages, it will make a difference!

Yea i guess that makes since but i don see why they just cant make a phone with all these features that will actually last without having to turn it all off jus my opinoin but i kno they have the technology but why would they do that when they can sell an extandable battery and make more money off of us consumers i don feel so bad for them and all the freebies every1 has n e more!

Cuz personally i was thinkin about going the a900 route but if i have these features i would like to b able to use them so i think when i make my call to retentions im goin to say that i want the expandable battery included since all ive heard is the terrible battery life reviews and see if they can throw that in there for me if they even offer it... but if not looks like ill look n2 a different phone

I have to say however, that even though I am here adding suggestions, I am pretty satisfied with my battery life. The battery meter works strangely; I can lose my first two bars of battery strength quickly, but the last one will hold and hold for quite some time. It's like comparing gasoline gauge needles for different cars. It's never died on me when I needed it, and I don't use the power save mode at all. Overall, I think it's comparable to most of the phones I have had with Sprint, but yes, I have heard more negative battery complaints than positive ones.
Anyone remember the Samsung a460?
Riggler_900

I have herd the same reviews on battery life, but over all I am 100% satisfied with the a900. :headbang2

why does power save mode lagg the fone?
Reason being is that power saver mode not only turns down the intensity of the light to save battery power, but also scales down the processor, like mobile chips in laptops, so the phone actually runs slower......

GPS allows some applications that use your current location to present you with information.
e.g. "My Cast Weater" can give you a weather forecast based on your cell's location without you having to enter a zip code
e.g. "Google Local" can show you an overhead satellite view of your location with the same info.
There are several applications with similar uses of GPS.
All in all it can be useful, but as has been said, you can turn it on for when you really need it, then turn it back off. It's pretty simple (Go to Settings, Others, and turn off "Location"). However, I have my doubts about how much battery life it saves. I'm gonna try it.
An important note: 911 can still access your "Location" as long as that service is available in your area.

From Google Maps Mobile website:
Does Google Maps use GPS to figure out where I am?
Google Maps doesn't use any GPS technology, even if your phone has a built in GPS location device.

Sorry, I believe it was the Map app in On Demand I was talking about. Or Garmin, or something. In any case, there are GPS mapping apps available that do use it, which is the point I was trying to make. Sorry for any confusion.

The battery life sucks on this phone. At lowest use still get 1.5 days at best. But I guess it's not too bad, I'll just have to get used to charging it every night like my ipod.

So most people i kno including me charge a phone nightly anyway so say im on my phone for alot of the day minus 5-10 everynight since im at a job that wont allow cells in the building would this phone last me the whole day?

I have a heard a lot of complaints about battery life......well I use most of my features I text at least 20 times a day and get about the same amount of calls...and I can still go a day or so without charging my blade.....i also keep the vibrate on my ringers .....however i have turned off gps, i use powersave mode...and my baklight is as dim as it can go(although its still so britght i can see it)
I havent noticed any lag in my programs....so maybe ive been lucky...
however I did notice that with bluetooth always visible....i was getting a faster drain on my battery.....so i changed it to the -visibility- option of Hidden....that way when a call comes in my bluetooth still activates....and i can still make outgoing calls using voice command...but im not eating up battery cells...

I use my A900 very rarely, we're talking maybe 15 minutes of talk time during the day. My battery last no more than 10 hours. I'm not even using any features, and have all the settings turned down, except I'm not using power save.

I've had my Blade for a couple weeks now, and I am completely satisfied. The battery life seemed short at first (the whole novelty of having a new cell phone...and constantly playing with things), but seems very normal now.
I charge the phone every night and have never ran out of battery. I don't think I've ever had a phone I didn't charge every night...Sanyo 8100 included.

Does having power save mode on effect bluetooth being recognized? My friend has a Motorola H350 that he can't seem to get working.
This next question is a little OT but he is considering dumping Motorola BT headsets and is looking for a new one. He has had about two other Motorola BT headsets, the 700 and something else. Any recommendations?

Power Saver shouldnt effect it but If you cant get it working try turning it off. Sometimes with mine I have to power off/on and then it works. Make sure the device is charged. Check the settings in the BT section on the phone. There are 2 places, 1 in settings and 1 in tools.

Is there a way to turn of EVDO on the phone? I am porting over from Verizon and on most of their phones you can disable EVDO and that greatly improves battery life. On my samsung (verizon) you can get into settings by entering the MSL and then select the CDMA only option, which turns off EVDO.
billford
05-01-2007, 12:51 AM
if you go to settings > Display > 0 > MSL
you will get to a menu for changing those settings. Just go to 7 and you will have that option.
rhh621
05-01-2007, 09:08 AM
Verizon always set the MSL to be 000000. I think I read somewhere that each Sprint phone has a different one? Is this correct?
miguelfp1
05-01-2007, 08:50 PM
yes, every phone has a unique MSL, which depending on what phone you have, may be obtained via software programs or only through Sprint
tomc585
05-02-2007, 07:43 AM
Your not going to see any extra battery life by diabling the EVDO. That only draws battery power when you are actually using EVDO.
