I think the tragedies of 9/11 should be shown on TV everyday. Too many people forget, sad to say but it's true.
I will be going to see it. I like to pour gas on the flame that burns in me.
Yeah, I agree, people do forget to soon, even something as huge and tragic as 911. It's strange, I almost see it as a kind of 'duty' to see it, we can never forget, or become complacent when it comes to this. I'll be seeing it to. By the way NavyCop, thanks a bunch for your service...
No, I won't be.
My neighbor lost her husband.
We do not forget.
I lost my best friend in the south tower collapse.
I will never forget. I kept the bounced email message I received back when I emailed him. They had already lost communications and power. I will never forget.
I do not need a Hollywood movie to remind me.
I do not need politicians to remind me.
I do appreciate every single person who has ever put on the uniform for military service for our country. I morn for those we have lost. I cry for those who have returned broken. I am proud for all who volunteer to serve.
But I don't need a movie to remind about that tragedy.
Sorry for your losses LJA, seriously.... My cousin's husband (NYFD) would probably not be here today if he hadn't got transfered to another fire dept literally 2 days before that happened. Many of his comrads perished in the dept that he was transfered from.

I really can't see how the movie can do justice to the situation. Most of what happened on that plane remains sealed under a federal blanket of national security. Until flight recorder data is released I have my doubts about Hollywood's ability to interpret this reality. They should stick with what they know: nonstop fluffy dogs, infadelity, and divorce.
Regardless of the approval of people close to the situation I can't but see this as anything more than sensationalism 4 years+ after the fact. Someone just might end up making money off the movie...whatever they do with it I hope they can sleep at night. We aren't going to forget but I think it would be "good" if there came a year when people born on the 11th day of the 9th month don't feel shamed because a day is forever locked away for a single purpose and their minds are somewhere else.
eh...each to his own. I like downer movies on the right day.

I won't be going... I think it's sad that people are trying to profit from other people's tragedy. Now, if they decide to show the movie for free... then I will go.

you know what, its good to see the movie. alot of people think yeah they attacked my country and i should be sad. if thats you then thats good, your a patriot. but this is how i feel. everytime i look at the news, the family members i see encourage the movie. so if anyone should be declining the movie, it should be the family members.
i think some people are scared. just like the war in Iraq people think that because the news reports on this, people shouldnt see it. people need to think for themselves. if your against it, please give a response(not here though) but dont jump the bandwagon because CNN says its too soon to see it. when you look at the news, its always about cindy shehan and how many people died in Iraq. you know what, im for it. i would rather we fight them there instead of here. no matter how many wars you fight, soldiers do die. They know that they will die for thier country and thier families. So why protest about it, because you feel your family member died for you. Comparing this to christians, do people protest against Jewish people because thier lord died on the cross for thier sins. No they accepted it. or else when a single mom lies on top of thier child and she is being beaten to death, is it not for the good of her child
If i was to have a son or daughter that died in another country wheather i think the war is justice or not. yes i will be sad, cause its human nature but atleast i know he died for me and i would be greateful. i know many service men and women going to Iraq. They hate the word "we hope you come back ok" they know they will and if not then they know your safe. thats dedication and dammit some people here should be proud of the people on that plane that saved all of us from a horrific plane crash in PA or else terrorists making the US a chernobel.
just my 2 cents and i know ill probably get hate mail but you know what im proud of this country and only fight for those who are innocent, not for the persecutor

I am not going to see it. I already have enough memories of 9/11. I lost some friends on that day. I don't need a movie to remind me of it. :(

for clarification
the ones showing in theaters is called UNITED 93
on A&E its called FLIGHT 93
I think this movie could actually have an uplifting effect. We've been been beaten to death with the stories of what these maniacs did to us, well, it seems this movie turns the table, and portrays what these brave and heroic souls did to them, and how they foiled the terrorists ultimate plan, which was to fly that plane straight into the White House. None of us can comprehend the outcome of that if the terrorists didn't meet the brave resistance they did, and had their way. Hundreds of lives were surly saved that day because of their actions, and even though much of this may be hard to watch, I have a feeling that when I leave the theater to go home, I will feel quite proud to belong to the same nation that the people on that plane did.

I don't understand the point of this movie personally.. I would agree with the author's view below.
Taken from Newsweek article by David Ansen:
But the movie's strength—its wrenching realism—is also its limitation. Greengrass gives us the surface and sensation of reality. As a picture of behavior in extremity, it rings true. But without context, psychology, politics or contemplative distance, you may wonder what, exactly, this re-creation illuminates. "United 93" isn't exploitation, but what is it? On some basic level, it can't help but be a thrill ride, albeit one that leaves you somber and drained. Whether you need that ride is a question you'll have to answer yourself.
OR they donate the money to families or a scholarship fund for children of victims or something. Otherwise, I agree with you, boowoooh.
Universal Pictures claims that 10% of the money made from this film will be donated to a memorial fund. Still not a bad chunk depending on how well the movie does, but for anyone to think that Hollywood would make any movie and donate ALL profits to ANY organization, or not charge at all at the box office is, well, unrealistic and is wishful thinking to say the least.

I heard on the radio that portions ( I do not know how much) will be towards the Flight 93 memorial.
The Director and one of the actors that plays Todd Beamer was on. The director had the approval from all family members beofre the movie was put into play. They were very sensitive to the familes and to the whole movie script.

I want to see it because I think we should be reminded every day of the horrors of that day but more importantly the HEROES of that day!!

Saw the movie tonight and thought it was very well done. The movie definitely keeps your attention. It did bring back some memories from that day, but that's ok because I want to keep that fire lit and keep that memory strong. I'm glad I went to see it, my little way of paying some respect to those aboard that flight. One day I will go to the memorial and pay some well deserved respect.
I understand those of you that will pass on seeing the movie, but for those of you who do see it I hope you give your opinion.

lol this thread is funny and pointless. Its a freakin movie...
And no 9/11 should not be shown on tv everyday to remind us, its bad enough 1000's died that day but to broadcast it everyday for the families who lost love ones is wrong and seems like torture. If you lost a love one in a car crash and it was video taped, would u like it if fox decided to air the crash everyday so you wont forget? I think not...
Learn to move on, ppl dont forget but we move on thats all.

I think it's ineresting you say "move on". We still face these people everyday theyg could be streaming across our southern boarder as we speak. They "masterminds" of these attacks are still at large, and we don't know if or when this will happen again. I'll keep muy wounds fresh thank you. I will not move one... You may choose you say that is history " Learn to move on, ppl dont forget". I say give them a new ass&#%$ in the middle of thier foreheads. and I'll move on later...

:haha:
I will definetely be seeing this movie. I think it's a great tribute to the heros who died that day. Nothing can ever begin to make us feel what they felt that day, but I think it's great for them to try. We learn from history and we mustn't forget 911, because it could happen again. It may not be in the same form, but the tragedy can be duplicated.

I won't be seeing 'United 93'. Not because I object to it being made, but because for me, the tragedies of that day are still too near. But don't think that I don't think about Sept. 11, 2001, on a daily basis.
Those who will be seeing it, I applaud you. Maybe I'll watch it some day in the future on DVD.

Good post, I'm on the same page NASCAR
Let us make no mistake..... these maniacs are counting on us to forget, they are counting on us to be non vigilant, they are counting on us to become more complacent. Time is on their side when it comes to people who think like this. The "Element of surprise" kicks arse every time. We are in what some may call a world war, as unconventional as it may be. It is NOT time, in my humble opinion, to forget any of this.... we have a ways to go before we have that luxury.

I dont think they are counting on us to forget, if they wanted us to forget they would not be torturing americans on tv and blasting it all on the net. They want to emplant it in our heads.
Well then it seems it gets implanted in some peoples heads and not in others. Most of us don't have time to have this in our mind, we are busy with our hectic day to day lives, work, family ect. On the other hand, these twisted souls spend every waking hour trying to figure out how to hurt us and others around the world again, 24/7, 365 days a year, it's their life's goal. That's something I don't forget.
