I need help in getting faster Vision speeds. Iam using a Sprint MVNO(Sti) with a Samsung A660 for tethering to Vision. Its in a rural/just past suburbs but not agroculture area, just woods, in Ulster County NY. Dialup is 16-24kbit, no other forms of broadband avaible, too scared to ask price of ISDN. Verizon Wireless has good coverage but ive run into capping problems before with them.
On Sprint with phone's built in antenna up my rx levels are 101-104, burst upto 98 and 1 bar steady. I can place voice calls 75% of the time(25% it says connecting, then after 30 secs returns to main screen like the call atempt never happened), but once they start their quality is perfect as long as i dont lower the antenna. They never drop unless i lower the antenna. On Vision #777 works 25% of the time, when it connects I cant ever go above 12kbit, speed tests at 4-8kbit. If vision idles the 2nd #777 wont reconnect. Pings to google are 350-750ms and 1 out of 10 fail, pings always fail if any other kind of data transfer is happening. If I "toggle QNC" #777 always works, seems to be same speed as in Vision mode. I tried a 6db magmount omni antenna, only changes are 90% connection sucess for voice and vision and reconnect after idle works but the signal is 101 burst, 102-105 compared to 98 burst, 100-104 for phone's internal antenna. Speeds and pings are the same. All of my testing took place on the roof of the house basically I was crouching on the 5th floor with my hips below the "floor". The 5th floor is 10 feet below the tree line but there is a 20-30 mile view across a valley to nowhere. I belive the Sprint tower is the other direction, up a hill about 20 feet and there will be a view into another valley that has major people and a corridor (route 209) that Sprint "covers" and I can get 2-3 bars and low 90s bursting into a 89, Vision speed unknown.

So finally, what can I do to improve my speed on Vision, Yagi antenna, amp+yagi, home made antenna, ask sprint to build tower on my property (ill give them a free lease, i have 80 acres), a differnt phone by my MVNO (STI), a different phone with it's ESN changed?
Also how can I find out what towers and locations that my phone is sitting on? level 1 CS/TS of my MVNO just has the public Sprint map, I know VZW CS has street level and tower location, does Sprint CS, if so how do i call and ask since im not a sprint "customer"? Also would any Sprint store reps be able to tell me in person or reps from this forum?

uhh..the a660 is known to be a real stinker when it comes to reception.

im afraid you will need to get sprint in order to do anything about it, and get a sanyo, i recommend a 7400 if you can still find one, they have stellar reception.
