While lurking at HOFO I came across this info on how to block unwanted Premium Texts. www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=878469

I think I'd definitely like to do this on my kids' phones. I'm also going to put a ban on ring tone sites unless they are on an approved list from me. I noticed all these sites that had you enter your phone number. that's all I need is for the kids' to start showing up with big bills for scams like this!
I read most of the thread. Do we just call *2 and ask for the block to be put on the lines?

well 1st, adding those codes will not block premium sms, it will only block the casual sms(mobile to mobile texting)...
there is also a way to put a block on ringers, screensavers stuff like that. call cust service and ask them to take off the IP BASIC. but before you have it taken off, verify 1st if there are existing downloads because once IP BASIC's removed, ull have a hard time removing the downloads e.g. ringers. also u can have it refunded back to your account.

Thanks for the clarification. For now, I think I'll try the "maternal IP block" and have told the teens no ring tone sites without my approval. I actually went one step further and told 'em if they wanted a new ringer, come see me and we'll set about getting it for them. I quickly went to funformobile.com and reviewed their privacy policies since I'd used it to dl some tones for my daughter. They say they do not sell your information under any circumstances.

Thanks, Guys! I'll put funformobile on the approved without checking with mom list. Since I'm pretty sure they've both added it to their favorites already, that's a good thing :)

Also, the problem with putting a blanket block on all premium messages, there's a chance that some of your legitimate correspondance will be blocked as well. Not all "premium" messages charge money for their service.
Plus if you ever change the number, the next guy stuck with it will have the same problem. Just take the time to find out who is sending the spam and read how to unsubscribe from their website.
