They can't block that feature, because it's not a feature. SMS is email. They can't stop you from sending a message from your phone's email to another email. That's like saying that you can't send email from yahoo to anyone. Your SMS email address is
yourphonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com. When you send a message to another phone, you are sending an email from your phone to their phone. It's working fine for me.
I Know All That But It Ain't Working In Atleast 3/4 Of The U.S.

but its not using an actual email system, its using an sms/email gateway (thats why you type 6245 on PDA's) so yes they could block that... just by simply blocking the outgoing port for that feature number while still allowing incoming... no differently than doing ports on a cisco router.

Even if they could block it.. I thought they wanted that feature there.. if you look in your phones sms messaging menu.. it asks if you want to send to an email / cell phone

I have been having the same problem and there are 2 threads
I noticed that:
1. I cannot send any email to any email address
2. I am not receiving any mobile alerts (e.g. yahoo).
What I put together myself... Notice that yahoo mobile alerts and others that arent coming through come from a short number like 1234... it seems as if we are only able to send /receive messages from cell phones (e.g. 234-567-8910). But One thing that doesnt fit in is I am still receiving mail send from my email.
But I used this feature A LOT.. actually for most of my SMS so is there anything we can do / is it gone on purpose ?

WRONG.
SMS is NOT email, just because you have an email alias, it does not mean that it is email. I work for the company that does SMS traffic for the iDen side of the network. There are different applications that process messages with different types of destinations. Traffic that goes to an email address outside of @messaging.sprintpcs.com is handled different than messages destined to a phone number.
We have multiple programs that handle traffic differently. Based on the type of SMS message, and where it is destined for.
We have SMTP Traffic, SNMP Traffic, SMPP Traffic, MMS Traffic... They are all handled differently. The same phone can generate traffic that goes through all of those protocols.

well the proof is in the pudding...and trust me im a man that knows a little something aboot pudding
But as for your error messages... you have to put in TO: 6245 (stands for MAIL) then in the body of the message put user@aol.com (then a space) and your message after. It seems to send ok but it never gets there.

Same here... no yahoo alerts... my address xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com within yahoo is not verified. Thought that may have something to do with it... but when I try to verify is sends an email to that address, my phone gets it as sms fine, but they link I need to go to isn't in the sms, I think it's after the character limit, so I'm not able to verify.

I stopped receiving Yahoo and MSN alerts a few days ago too. Anyone know if this is a Sprint problem and if so, when they plan on fixing it?

one work around for now if any of you use Gmail.
set those alerts to send to your Gmail account and then setup a filter to have Gmail forward only those alerts to your SMS email address. That should work for now.
