View Full Version : a900 as modem... hardware failure error when dialing #777

Hello,

I just got my a900 and I've disabled NAI through the menu as instructed, I've installed the drivers properly and created the dial up connection using #777 as the number with no user/pass. I've used my old 8100 as a modem for years so I'm sure the settings on the computer are correct.

The problem I'm having is when it goes to dial #777 is says "Error 692. There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)" I've tried this on 2 computers now with the same results. I have verified that NAI is off, and I've rebooted the phone and the computers a number of times.

When I go to the modem control panel and click query modem, it gives me basically the same message, it says it cannot communicate with the modem.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I thought I read that power vision phones had the NAI off and #777 completely blocked by sprint..

Why the double post?

Anyway, did you search error 692 on the forum? Turned up this:

Basically sounds like a phone hardware problem. Since it's new maybe it could be replaced? You may need to come up with an excuse other than it won't work as a modem when NAI is disabled lol.

Thanks for the link... it sounds like it might be something wrong with the phone, but I hope not. I just got this a900 through lockline and I'm not eligible for another replacement for a year.

When you plug in your USB cable to your computer and phone...does it say USB Connected on the phone? I had the same problem you're having when my phone didn't say that. There was a glitch where I had to first go to Menu -> Tools -> Mass Storage -> Connect to PC. After this every time I plugged in the USB cable, it automatically says USB Connected and I'm able to connect to the internet just fine.

Thanks to everybody... Gregroy's suggestion worked. For some reason, I had to go and enable the mass storage option once, and then the phone said "connected to usb". Now whenever I connect the USB cable, it says "conencted to usb", where before it didn't for some reason. #777 works great.

I think I have the same problem.
Where is the best place to perform from above first go to Menu -> Tools -> Mass Storage -> Connect to PC
In Xp I don't see the actual menu he refers to.

Thx

Those instructions are for the phone, not the computer.

Generally, I find that reseting the phone and/or the computer helps get rid of this problem. I had it yesterday and after I reset my phone, it went away. This was with Bluetooth btw.

Well, I thought that might be the case, but on my a920, I goto to Menu, tools, there is no "mass storage" selection. I'll try the reset later & see if that works. Re the mass storage, do you know anyplace else it might be in the phone (ie. settings??)

Thx!
