Hello to everyone in this forum! This is my first post, but I've been lurking here for a few months. I just think the community here is a GREAT support for all of us Sprint users!!! :headbang2

Okay, I've looked and looked at every thread I could search for regarding on whether or not it is possible to place a GREAT QUALITY ring tone on the Sanyo 5600 using the supplied USB data cable. I am aware that it doesn't actually transfer it to the phone, but to the miniSD card instead. However, others have apparently reported (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79653&highlight=5600+usb) that they have been able to copy over their "home made" ring tones from the miniSD to the 5600 internal memory.

I don't have access to a Mac, which makes me wonder if I'm doing things right. I have created a 9, 10, 20, and 30 second clip (troubleshooting sizes, lengths, etc) using a wave editor (I do computer based digital recording, so I know what I'm doing here). Next, I open up the .WAV file in QuickTime Pro. I have tried selecting Export to MP4, 3GP, and 3G2 with no success. Every time I try to select the file as a ring tone it gives me the typical error of "WARNING! This file cannot be set!". :irked:

Can someone please elaborate on the details (ie: under the options/audio section) in QuickTime Pro that you use and have worked for this scenario? I'm pretty computer literate (been using 'em for about 19 years now...), so I should be able to follow instructions!!!

I currently don't have vision on my plan, so uploading/downloading ring tones is not a feasible solution at the moment. I am definately GOING to get vision, but I need to know if just using the USB data cable to send a ringtone is even possible. I certainly hope it is, because that would simplify things for me so much!!!

Thanks for reading this book :haha:  , and hopefully someone who has more experience with this can & will help me out!!

David

i have made several ringtones before. you are on the right track but after you cut down the wav file you have to convert it to an .m4a file type. i use dbpoweramp to do this. then i use the focus uploader on this site to send it to my phone. its really not possible to access the phones on board memory so using a usb cable really wont work. as for the length of the ringers i would not go over 30 seconds. generally after that long the vm has already picked up. hope this helps some. if you have any questions let me know.

Thank you for your response! I am able to convert the .WAV file to a .MP4 (renaming to .M4A) with QuickTime Pro. However, when I use the USB cable to place the .M4A file into the 100SANYO folder on the miniSD card, it won't even recognize that there is a file present in that folder!

Unforunately, I don't have a Sprint Vision plan at the moment (working on that....), so using Focus (or any other for that matter) to upload the ringer to my phone won't work. I'm trying to find out if ANY of the users here have been able to transfer a ring tone to their phone using the USB cable.

If any users have accomplished this, can they do this thru Windows Explorer, or does it require 3rd party software such as DataPilot or the FutureDial software? I've made the ringtones I want, and can listen to them if I put them in the MEDIA folder on the SD card (and they sound great!!!), but I can't get the phone to copy it to the internal memory from the MEDIA folder (maybe it can, but I can't figure out how??).

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be MOST grateful!!!

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!!!

David

Okay, well after digging a little deeper into the forums here, I found the answer to my own question! I thought I'd share this with anyone who searches and finds this topic.

Hopefully someone will get some use out of this!

Make sure you follow the steps exactly, and I promise that it really, truly does work!

OK, step one... register for QuickTime Pro.

QTPro can export 3GPP movies, which is the format the MM-5600 saves videos in.

Open an mp3 file in QuickTime. I use mp3Trim to get just the 20 seconds I want.

Then Do "Open Image sequece" and pick an image to comprise your Video Track. Sexy girl does it for me. Resize and crop it to 176x144 and save it as a pct file

For Frame Rate, choose the lowest (10 seconds per FRAME) which will consume very little bandwidth.

In the new movie window with the image, Do Edit... Copy, then in the old window (with the mp3 track) do "Edit,... Add Scaled"

Then do "File.... Export", Export "Movie to 3G" and click Options.

For the video track, put the data rate down low to say 10kbps, ensure 15 fps, and set the "Key Frame" rate high, like one every 300 frames. Set video size to 176x144.

For the Audio Track, chooose AAC-LC format and pick a decent audio rate... I haven't experimented whether the phone's player has an upper rate it supports, but 56k worked good. Choose mono, A decent sampling rate (again, experiment!) and Best Encoding Quality.

Click OK, and Save the file with an 8 character ALL_CAPS filename, with a .3G2 extension.

Connect the phone with USB, put it in your pics and video folder.

Pick a contact, add the video from miniSD as a ringer and...

Smile... you have an awesome ringer to go on your awesome phone.

I tried a few pictures, and I couldn't get 'em to work, so I just used a black 240x320 JPEG. For some reason, when I made a 176x144 JPEG it wouldn't work. I have attached the 240x320 JPEG I used to this message (blank.jpg).

I realize that this is a "Video Ringer", and not an audio only ringer, but it works for my purposes!
