All, I was wondering if anybody has heard about Dial Up Networking(DUN) capabilities on the the new treo 700's( both windows and palm) that are coming out for sprint. Also, does anybody know about the DUN capabilities for the already out verizon 700...I know verizon stated allowing DUN on all capable phones for 60 a month which I think is ridiculous.

I have a treo 650 with shadowmites DUN program on it and I think it is the best. My mac mini surfs from the 650.

theoretically, wouldnt I be able to download the same sort of pirate program to a 700 in order to allow DUN.

Thanks for all info

I had the treo 700 from verizon for about 30 minutes, when i found that it cannot tether in the same way the ppc6700 or t650 can. I found out later there is a beta version of pdanet for the t700 and so you would beable to do it that way. if you a mac (like me), you're pretty much out of luck.

VZW told me that the treo doesn't have enough processing power to support DUN of any sort, which is pure crap, since the treo 600 could do it and it had like what, a 66mhz dragonball processor?

On a whole, think that vzw doesn't encourage tethering like sprint does. They don't have "phone as modem" plans, and such, and as far as the ppc6700 goes, the sprint one works right out of the box, the vzw 6700 you have to go into some service menu and enable it and all that jazz.

So in short, would sprint allow tethering? They better if they want to keep all their customers who have PAM plans.

verizon crippled their bluetooth which is why you can't tether with them. it has nothing to do with processing power, they just don't let you use OBEX or DUN.

sprint on the other hand, you will be able to use Dial-Up Networking. wether or not they'll be able to tell that you're DUNing or not remains to be seen. if it's like some newer phones then yes they'll be able to tell and will charge you extra accordingly. if not, then it's probably fair game in moderation (read: as long as you don't get caught).
