I've read on this form plenty of times before that certain types of phones couldn't be ported over to CDMA, mostly phones using simcards, so how is it that the razr was first released for cingular or t-mobile I forgot, but then ported over to Verzion, which uses CDMA. Just curious about this.

If you consider the term "ported", at least in a programming context, it means rewriting a given algorithm or set of logic in a different language, perhaps with a different set of constraints.

Porting from GSM to CDMA means a completely different radio - the part that allows the phone to be a phone. It is true, you cannot use a GSM phone on a CDMA network. But the phone can be rebuilt, specifically to work on a CDMA network.

I'm well aware of that but I've seen people say that specific phone would never be released for Sprint because it's GSM, if the phone intrigued sprint enough couldn't they just ask for their own CDMA build of that phone.

As far as I am aware, the former is completely incorrect and contrived, and the latter is correct.

I meant to say specific phones, not phone
