I am using a 6700 and I just don't care for it. I was playing with a T650 I ordered for a friend and I miss that phone. The 700 cannot get here soon enough.

Heh...I feel the same way, in fact just helped the gf get a good deal on a gsm treo 650, I miss it so much, but love EVDO. My A920 will suffice until the 700p comes out though. I had the 6700, 2 of them, tried to use it for a month, couldn't. It was slow and kept freezing when it was in standby so that I wouldn't receive calls, and I wouldn't know until I tried to turn it on.

me too. I love my treo but I want EVDO and at least a 1.3 megapixel cam. everything else is perfect

Funny thing, I just wanted to get a 650 using some "deal" out in the world, but after finding out that to qualify I would have to open a new line and keep THAT new number for the rebates, it looks like I am going to be paying close to full price. So, with that, I am waiting on the P also. Hey, if I am going to pay full price, might as well wait for EVDO (and hopefully a WiFi slot too).

Me too. I love my treo but I want EVDO, everything else is perfect. Wish SPCS not to put any add-ons or fixes on P, so I'll enjoy EVDO with my grandfathered Vision plan.

Heh...it'll be more than just evdo. It'll have a 1.3mpx camera, about 62MB of free memory, and possibly some very useful apps (ptunes and docs2go8) in the ROM.

I can't wait for the 700p either. I'm going to make my work take back my 6700 and get me the 700p instead. The 6700 is so slow and buggy. The 650 is better than the 6700 and it's a year and a half old! The 700p will easily be the best pdaphone available when it's released.

And Sprint TV right???

From what I saw on the preproduction version I had, it did have an app for SprintTV. It didn't necessarily work correctly, however it was an early beta, and the fact that it's there gives us hope that it'll be in the production version, making the sprint treo 700p one of the only PDAs to actually have carrier support for power vision.

I'd also noticed that the picmail app was greatly improved, and is much like the app on newer PV phones. You can browse online albums now too though the application. This one's gonna be a good one, which is why I'll try my best to be one of the first to buy one of these suckers.

Heh... I was thinking, though, wouldn't it be nice if sprint bit the cost and included free verichat in the new treo for us? That would kick soooooo much ass.

well, did it have verichat? that would be a pretty good indicator of wether or not it'll include it.

No, but even if it doesn't, I'd get it anyway. Verichat is leagues ahead of any other mobile IM solution.

Well, I got my 6700 for sale and probably will take less than it's worth. I just said, I don't want it anymore. I'd rather deal with a regular phone and wait on the Treo. In the meantime I will put that money towards microphones and studio equipment, oh yea and Ebay fees :(. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

but it ain't cheap! I seen it for 25 bucks... *** is that. I'm not paying 25 bucks for what ammounts to shareware, and isn't it like 20 bucks annually too?

Is the Treo 700 going to have ReadyLink? I'm seriously thinking about getting a PDA phone when my contract is up in July. Will it even be out by then?

Now THAT is awesome. I wonder if it's a true Palm app or if it's a Java app. The Picturemail app will be a welcome change too... hopefully bringing us true MMS (which has been on the other Treos). It'd be nice to see who u sent pics to from the phone in an "outbox" sort of thing. For browsing online albums thru the app, u mean instead of it just launching the browser right?

I hope they add the feature of adding a number to an existing contact from the phone mode versus making it a new contact. Other than that any other extras are gravy.

even the most pessimistic say it should be out by july. ok, well there are a couple who swear by august, but still, it's gonna be out well before then by all indications.

I think it's highly doubtful that it will have RL or at least there has been nothing indicating that it will.

yeah, I'd be shocked if it did seeing as how the 650 didn't have it. that and it's kinda not well suited for a smartphone at all.

There's almost a 99% certainty that it won't have RL. Why would it?

I think having RL would turn a lot of people off.. 2 versions would be better, but I would be very surprised if it had RL. Sprint doesn't seem to have been pushing the RL too much.. Maybe once they figure out how to get nextel's DC into their phones..

The 700p sounds so tempting. I love my 6700 though. The ability to access PictureMail (with native support) would be great. If they come out with a PictureMail app for the 700p, then the 6700 should have something too. I did read something about an application for Windows Mobile that could run Palm apps...

Doesn't the fact that Palm was recently brought out concern anyone?

No one bought Palm.

PalmSource was bought by Access. They are two seperate companies (Palm and PalmSource). The PalmOS will be phazed out for their new ALP OS which is a linux based system that will run Palm software. Won't be out till 2007 though. Meanwhile, Palm will continue to release devices presumably with both WM and PalmOS5 for as long as it's a viable option.

So what is the tentative release date on this handset? I know there has been other buzz on the forum on release times, but anything definite?

Malatesta - IYO, would the upcoming 700 be portable to the new SW next year? Or will that probably require a totally new handset/PDA? As you know, I am waiting on the 700, but I don't necessarily want to see it at end of life in a year.

Humm, 3rd week in April - that's the most definitive date I have seen yet. Let's hope!

Wow. Good question!

It's really too early to say at this point as only a demonstration of the software has been shown but there is no version relased to vendors...so no one really knows the specs.

But from what we do know about Linux type OSs is that they are very flexible and require less computing power (similiar to why WM can emulate PalmOS but not in reverse) so I'm going to go ahead and assume that the hardware requirements will be low. OTOH, I remember reading somewhere about dual processors and ALP.

Regardless, although Access is saying it will be ready at the end of 2006 and devices will ship in 2007...I wouldn't necessarily put that in stone as I can't think of the last time a new hardware/software combo came out on time. So I think you'll get a good solid year-and-half out of the 700P which in technology terms is a long time. Plus, maybe just maybe...Access will make ALP available to older phones for a price? Who knows.

There is also this seperate Treo/Linux Project (http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/06/linux-on-treo-650-gets-real/) to keep an eye on as a viable alternate.

You know, if I get a year, year and a half with it, that'll be OK. It will be time for the next "toy" by then anyway!

As always - thanks.

psh, It'll be my phone till the Treo 1000 comes out :p I've made it a year and a half on this goddamn Sanyo 8100, I think I can make it work for a good long while on a phone with 128x the memory, a larger, better screen, QWERTY keyboard, EV-DO supporting FAT-ass SD cards, and NFL Network :D

Boy am I glad I found this website. The manager at my local Sprint store told me about it today, which is ironic because I was ready to drop $400 on a 6700. I converted Star Wars (EP 4) into 320x280 format so I could see how it would play on the 6700 but I didnt realize it didn't take the standard SD cards. Good thing too. This 700p sounds like its going to be a hit. Guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer. *sigh* Thanks for all of your input guys! =D

Tired of all of the speculation(& Bulls**t) I went to a sprint store in Ft. Collins Colorado and asked when it (700p)was really going to be released. The employee (Justin- if you want to call for yourself) showed me on his sprint mail account that it should be released next month sometime, but that it is only tenative and could change depending on production/tech. issues. So, I guess when it gets here it gets here, either way I will be ready. He also said the estimated price will be around $600 bones.

BTW - The Cowboys just signed up themselves a heep o' trouble, IMO. Just what Jerry likes! They'll probably still suck this year......
