Updating info to a new computer

Hi all,
I have a question regarding moving info from my old computer which crashed to my new computer. I have information in my contacts, scheduler etc that I would like to move to the computer but dont want the programs moved. I installed the palm one info clean onto the computer and am now at the place where i need to sync. Should I do this or change my user name first. Also I previously used a Clie and this brought all the old programs forward on my Treo previously and I would prefer not to have them anymore as I think they cause my DTG to reset continuously. Thanks for any help on this.
