Question about SMS...

What is the purpose of using SMS? I thought it was like a text message with sound but now it seems its just like calling and leaving a message for someone. The funny part though is that its actually more expensive to do SMS it seems than to just leave a message because when you leave a message and the person checks their messages it doesnt cost anything but if you send an SMS its a call to california just to listen the the message. So if two people both have sprint with mobile to mobile it would save min just to try and call em and leave a message instead, wouldnt it?

SMS=Text Messages
MMS=Multimedia Messages (like voice, pics, video attached to text)

for that text msg with sound it wouldn't cost the other person anything extra if they have Unlimited Vision service. Otherwise they would be charged /kb.

Actually though, that still leaves my question as to why anyone would even want to bother with a voice sms at all when a voice mail would be quicker, easier, and cheaper.

Well, you have to call the other person to get to their voicemail and there's a chance of that person picking up, therefore you are forced to talk to that person.

Sending txt/voice msgs is good when you don't need to speak to the other person.

1+1+10 digit phone number will put you right to voicemail as long as the person you're calling has a sprint pcs phone.

^^ That doesn't work for everybody. This was talked about before, if the number was ported from a different carrier then it will not work (an assumption). I have tried this myself and everytime the other phone rang.

No I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but an option nonetheless. I did just call my GF's ported over sprint # w/11- and it went to voicemail. Weird.

I don't know how you can with the 8300 but with the A920, you have a choice to send a txt msg, a voice msg, a pic mail or a hand.mail (I still don't know what hand.mail is).

Handmail is where you can write a note and take a picture of it with your camera and it will digitize it. Doesnt work worth a darn though on my phone.
