After having trouble with the touch screen not working I did serveral soft resets and then finally a hard reset to see if it would fix it. It didn't so the phone is being worked on as we speak. However, after doing the hard reset I tried to sync with outlook and reinstall all of my contacts and after doing that outlook doesn't show any of my contacts! zip, zero, nada! I noticed in the activesync window it has a different name for the device. ie Original name plus the number 1 at the end. Does this mean my data is still within outlook and I need to change a setting or is all of my info in outlook gone? Thanks for any help!

After you sync the first time. Go into options on active sync. For some reason contacts are not put in the syncing option the first time so will will have to add it in options. Then it should sync with your contacts.

I understand what you mean but all my contacts have been erased in outlook so there isn't anything to sync anymore. I don't understand though because I had "replace item on device" selected in the settings. Contacts are blank on both the phone and outlook :(

A little caveat to his post: It's better to let the first Sync run virgin (the options unchanged), then do the changes and immediately reSync. The first Syncing will allow the two devices to recognise each other and if you set the options then, it will make it run extremely long.

Once the first sync is done, any further Sync will only update changes in data between the two. Which will make it shorter than the first one.

I usually do my setups as a series of short Syncs. That way I can take a moment to see if there's going to be program (#) conflicts when I add something new.

UPDATE: After seeing your post above mine, I feel for you. You're in a world of hurt. THe contacts are GONE. You'll have to reenter each and every one, unless you've made a backup file somewhere for the desktop.

what a minute! I got it...whew! For some reason outlook created a new profile instead of using the old one I had before...I figured this out by removing the device from activesync and reestablishing the connection. I noticed 2 different profiles so I chose my old one and volla! Everything is back yay :)

Yep, when you hard reset everything goes back to default, so the name of your device is WM_Owner, but when you sync you computer knows you as whatever you named it so some conflicts can happen. If you change the name back to what it was before the hard reset, i think everything would go smoothly,(probably not smoothly, but smoother.)

Whenever you do a hard reset, you are forced to rename the PDA, this is normal. Just resync with outlook and pull in your contacts.
