View Full Version : Garbled Ringtones?

I have an odd problem with my LG PM 225. When I create a customer ringtone and send it to my phone (I use rumkin) everything seems to work just fine. When I find the ringer in my "downloads" folder and play it it's clear as a bell. Perfect.

But when I get an incoming call and that ringer is used it sounds very garbled.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bryce

What format are the files?

It's a .qcp file. I can send the file to you if you like. (It's the opening bars of The Postal Service's "Sleeping In" if that does it for you).

238kb if that matters.

Like I said, it plays perfectly when it's played from the phone, it only sounds like crap when someone calls.

I just called tech support and they're baffled. They gave me another number to call so I'm on hold with them now.

Tech support told me this:

Because it's not from Sprint's website (it's a file I created myself) they can't support the file. They told me to download a ringer from their website and try it. If I get the same issue, then we know it's not the file, and it's the phone.

I'll have to pay for the file, but I was told that once I run the test I can delete it from "my content management" and request a refund, so I'm going to try that right now.

Yeah... give that a try and also send me the file as well. I'm going to PM you my email address. ALSO, try a different uploader. I know that sounds weird, but if I remember correctly in the past that solved a similar problem with a 2300. We've got a list of Sprint-compatible uploaders here:

ok, what I do is make a MONO 22kHz 24kbps MP3 then just rename it to QCP then use the rumkin uploader and they sound great.

238kb is WAY to big for a PM-225 with 1MB of memory.

Yep, I think that's the problem. Now just have to work on getting my file size down. Thanks!

Ok, I got it to work. I shortened it down to a 7.5 second file.

Then in Audacity I compressed the file size (Edit-->Preferences-->File Formats-->(Bit Rate 56).

That gave me a file size of 51kb and I'm sure I can go smaller if needed, but that works great now.

That short would suck to me, lol. All mine are 15 to 30 seconds.
