what is orb
orb is a program that will let you set up your pc as a server to be able to stream movies,pictures,mp3s, some radio stations and live tv to your cell phone. to stream live tv, you need an orb supported video card.
if you do a search on sprint users, you will find lots of posts about it. you can also goto http://orb.com/what_is_orb/ to learn more about it.
its a great program. i love it (if you plan on using it, make sure you have the vision pack)

can someone please help me out here? i have tried everthing that the orb.com support page says. i tore through the knowledge base and installed all the codecs and everything and i still get the mp4 codec error. and, when i right-click on the orb icon on the taskbar, clicked configuration > advanced> codecs, it just showed the mpeg-2 codec that has been there since i installed the program, and i cant get it to recognize anymore codecs. so i hope someone out there can help me. thanks

what codecs do you have. download the decoder utility http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=de1491ac-0ab6-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&DisplayLang=en
what type of file are you trying to play - divx,avi,mpg,mpeg,3gp etc.. you did download the appropriate codec? also is the file listed in the extention list?

well i am trying to stream .mp4, and i did a search for it in the knowledge base, and i downloaded every possible codec that it said you need to stream .mp4. also, do you have to put the codec's in the orb folder, or just install them on your computer?
about the extention list, where is that? i couldnt find it on the taskbar icon or on orb.com. the only thing is that under configuration > advanced > codecs - there is only the DScaler MPEG2 video decoder, and i can't pick anymore, even though they are on my computer.
EDIT: i can stream .3gp fine, but not .mp4
the decoder utility just said that it found the dscaler codec and that it isn't compatible with the sync features of WMP10. but that doesn't tell me anything, cause i dont care about WMP. but maybe that info can help you. thanks

the codecs will need to be installed on your pc - they dont have to be in the orb folder.
goto orb.com on your pc. goto audio - goto setup - set up media extentions and make sure .mp4 is listed . if not add .mp4 and make sure you save it. the same applies to videos (make sure the file you are wanting to play is listed).
on my pc, using the mpeg2 video decoder utility, i get the same message that its not compabile with the sync issue. i use Nvidia as my preferred codec to stream and then when i goto configuration > advanced > codecs - i use dscaler 5 codec.
Question: What codec do I need to stream each supported file type in Orb?
Solution: All supported audio and video files - including recorded TV shows - need to be decoded on your Orb PC before Orb can stream them to the device (PC, PDA, phone) you are using to access your media. These files may be in several different formats with various file extensions.
The decoding of these files is done by codecs (e.g., encoder/decoder) which must be installed on the PC running Orb. Following is a list of file extensions and URL links to download free Orb-compatible codecs.
For MPEG-2 files (DVR-MS, MPG, MPEG, and VOB extensions), use Dscaler5. Note that if you have Windows XP, this codec will be pre-installed in your system by Orb. But, if you have the Media Center Edition OS, Orb will not install this codec as you should normally have one already pre-installed in your system. If you don't, you can find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7420&package_id=123423
Important: For your Live and Recorded TV shows, Orb recommends that you set the Dscaler codec as your preferred codec in (Orb tray icon | Configuration | Advanced | Codecs), if not already selected.
For MPEG-4 files (DivX, Div3, Div4, XviD, AVI, etc. extensions), Orb recommends the FFDshow codec:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm
To stream RealMedia files (RAM, RA, RM, etc. extensions) without installing RealPlayer on your Orb PC, you must install the Real Alternative codec:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm
For Quicktime files (3GP, MOV, QT, etc. extensions), you must install the Quicktime Alternative codec, even if you already have the Quicktime player installed on your Orb PC:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
For iTunes files, Orb supports only the M4A extension. You can use the 3ivx codec (Note: if you don't buy it, this codec will expire after 30 days!):
http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html
Important: Orb does not support DRM-protected iTunes (.M4P extension).
For .AAC and .AMR files, you can use the following AAC parser:
http://www.rarewares.org/files/aac/aac_parser.zip
For OGG files (OGG, FLAC, etc. extensions), you must install the Ogg codec:

thanks, but like i said, i tried all the codecs packs and things to install from the directions. i did all of that. the one thing i didnt do was set the .mp4 media extention into orb. so i did that, and guess what? it still doesn't work... i just have no idea what to do. i have done everything that everyone has suggested, and it still doesn't work. and its not the MP4 file itself... i have tried multiple MP4 files, and i still get the same result. any more ideas? thanks

3GP is the only streaming you will be able to do from ORB to your phone.

3GP is nearly the same as MPEG-4. It uses a standard that is almost identical. Just go with 3GP.

QT Pro is my favorite, but the free one from our FAQ worked just as well for me.
