I didn't know I needed service in order to play a game! I didn't have service when I was trying to play World Poker Tournament and it didn't let me. Is this normal?

I didn't have a chance to other games...

maybe the game was attempting to connect to the online multiplayer lobby?

I think so... but is there a way to bypass that when I just want to play single player???

A lot of their games access the network now, no matter what. There really isn't a way around it. If you go into the game's settings and tell it to never allow access to the network (or to ask for access, etc.), they won't run.

You can try disabling Power Vision and then starting the game... might work, might not.
