Yes, you can. You can go to sites directly from the Treo and get supported ringtones. One good one is http://www.avianwd@avianwd.com, run by someone right here.

2nd download and assign pics?
You can assign pics to contact with the Treo, but you'll get thumbnails, not full screen views.
3rd how user friendly is the unit? im used to the standared plam platform, having had most tungsten models
I'd never used Palm in my life before getting my Treo and I had absolutely no problems. Being familiar with Palm, you'll have no trouble at all.
4th over all battery life?
Far as I'm concerned, battery life is great. I used to have an MM7400, which would be nearly dead or dead by the time I got home from work, so anything's an improvement. The Treo has a great battery and, since it's LiOn, you're encouraged to top it off whenever you get the chance. It doesn't have battery memory issues like NiCad.
and 32 megs on board, can u store mps easily or should i go ahead and get a card?
One shortfall of the Treo is memory. You'll definitely want to get an SD card, especially if you plan on storing a lot of songs, music videos or movies. Also, a lot of apps can be run from the card, freeing up valuable space.

Hope this helps!

:good: Great job at answering the questions.... I'll just add a couple things.

1. The phone only supports MIDI and WAV for ringtones. You can have MP3 ringers using a 3rd party program like Ringo Pro but most (I think) require u to have a card installed.

3. VERY user friendly and intuitive... especially being familiar with Palm you'll hit the ground runnin.

4. Battery life is great! Haven't tried it with bluetooth on tho.

:welcome1: to the Treo! Hehehe

The 650 has a couple issues, but nothing major. Usually, the problems are our fault, putting too many apps on too quickly, not taking our time. You'll want to add apps slowly so you can see if there are any conflicts with other things you've loaded on the Treo. Another is the volume. You'll want to invest in VolumeCare. It works on the speaker, speakerphone, headset, ringer, and you can buy an add-on for ringtones, if they're not loud enough for you. Get a screen protector! You'll want to use your stylus as little as possible but you definitely need to protect your screen. I suggest you get a backup app, so you don't lose all your info/settings if something should go wrong. There are good ones, some of them free. If you're looking for a case, there are many choices, like leather, skin, pouches, etc. I'd suggest visiting forums like EverythingTreo for advice on accessories and apps, as well as ideas for getting the most out of your Treo.

Or even better, get a 6700.

1) It can use Midi's, WAV's and MP3's for ringtones.
2) By itself, it can use pictures for caller ID/contacts, but they're thumbnails as well.
3) If you're used to windows on a desktop, you can adjust to WM 5 easily, contrary to popular (Treo-centric) rumors.
4) The battery life is as good as the Treo 650.
5) The 6700 has 48 MB storage available, and can take up to a 2 GB miniSD. A benefit of the 6700 over the Treo is that you can place programs onto the card as well. This will leave you more room for your desired ringers and contact photos on the device itself.

Don't be fooled by trolls touting the 6700 and its battery life. The battery life is horrible compared to the Treo. The Treo gets about TWICE the battery life of the 6700.

The Treo can take up to a 4GB SD card while the 6700 is limited to only 2GB with mini-SD.

Just for clarification...

2) The Treo can do this as well.
3) Ease-of-use is something that the perosn has to decide on their own.
5) You can place programs on expansion cards as well with the Treo.
