I picked up a a Sanyo 4900 recently to use as a stationary phone at home to replace my landline. I was initially going to plug it into a Dock-N-Talk type of device to connect it to my landline phones in the house, but then I noticed the neat call screening feature and the auto answer with speakerphone mode.
SO... here's the scenario, based on what I do today with my landline-based answering machine -- basically, we screen incoming calls with our answering machine:
-- when a call comes in, the phone should not ring (ok, no problem, select
"Silence All" to disable the ringer -- done)
-- the phone should automatically pick up the call and go into speaker
phone mode, just like my answering machine would (ok, no problem,
I set the auto answer in 5 sec... done)
-- my pre-recorded greeting should then play for the caller, and this is
the first thing I would hear if I were at home listing for incoming calls
(ok, thought I had this, selected auto answering on the call screening
feature, set it to answer in less than 5 sec)
-- the caller gets to talk, but if I don't answer, they get a fixed period
to leave a message and the phone terminates the call when the message
limit expires... or if I choose to answer the call, I can do so before they
hang up
I thought I got it working, but now I notice that if the speakerphone auto-answer occurs first, the call screening feature never activates. If the call screening feature auto-answer occurs first, then the speakerphone mode never goes on (you can only hear it if it's at your ear, or you press "Speaker" during the greeting).
Anyone else do a set-up like this before, and got it working? Or, have ideas on whether this combination of features could ever work the way I want it to at all?
Many thanks in advance!
