here is the thing. i tried to download a ringer that i made myself thru the iTunes. so during downloading to the phone, my phone froze and now won't turn on. tried taking out battery and rerstarting it again. one time it started so i went to security option and deleted all my downloads. then phone turned off again and it won't turn again at all. any ideas why it doesn't turn on? could it be corrupted memory problem that some 7400s are having?

hmm i would suggest you keep trying

if nothing happens take it to the store

don't mention the part about the downloaded ringtone though

I actually PM'd you about something regarding this, and apologized for not being able to help. However, I do have a word to the wise: DO NOT use iTunes to convert your music. The file sizes are HUGE. This could have possibly caused the problem.

i am trying. the screen lights up with sanyo 7400 pic and then after 30 seconds of being stuck with same pic it turns off. will try few more times if nothing changes i'll take to the store, though i don't want to do it. cause they might try to replace it with 8300.

well it was 167 kb file, so it wasn't that big.

update: it finally turned on. should it do "reset phone" in the under security option? could it help the problem?

It's possible. If you have your MSL, it might be worth doing a complete restore.

Gary, the 7400 has a problem in the firmware that after a while of downloading, it will slowly begin to shut off, freeze and do exactly what you are experiencing. Then, upon trying to get anything saved, even pictures or video, it will just shut off and restart. Is that happening yet? Anyway, you will be getting a new phone soon. I went throgh 12 7400's since Dec of 2004 and my last one finally got the cancer and died. I now have an 8300. Any further questions, let me know. As far as I know, do a search on the 7400 and you will get to the thread where we all talk about it's final horrah!! Also, Sprint store can't do anything for you. That's probably why they are on the do not repair list and have been for quite sometime:( It's a shame too. I loved mine. Last of the tetherable ones "Max" (kind of a play on Mad Max where he gets to see his new car---------"The last of the v-8's Max!----- I know, qit rambling.)

Chris :)

Also, if you have a Picture Mail account, you can upload them and then re-download them to your phone after the restore/reset. I know it sucks... but it might be your only choice if you want to try and salvage it.

Just to let you know, 1 day before I downloaded (or tried to) Happy Birthday from Louie, that is when it went. NOT TO SAY LOUIE'S SITE WAS TO BLAME AS I LOVE HIS SITE AND WOULDN'T CARE EVEN IF IT DID! I dedcided to swao ito ut for an 8300 before it became totally useless. It sucks, believe me to have to transfer info. I went through 12, had to swap phone numbers, pics, ringers, applicatons, the works. Heck, I'm glad Reqwireless still gave me keys.........

I wouldn't. If you can, get it swapped asap. If you do it at a Sprint store, depending on how bad it is, they can transfer fior you your info. Ringers only if I am not mistaken. Word of advice, 3G cables cable for the 7400. Will work on an 8300 too. They are great and will help in just about everything that applies to them. Best $20.00 I spent!! Especially in the tethering days......... :)

Definite sign is when you take a pic or video and when you go to save it, the phone shuts off and restarts. That is for sure a sign. I am going to find that thread for you.... :)

How about this old one. See? These have had many problems for quite a while. I will say this though, when I went in to swap out my 7400, the reps 7400 and another customers 7400 were fine and always have been. Now, I have a feeling they never did ANY downloading, at least nothing like me, so that may have contributed to the longevity of theirs.

I would venture to say no. I do believe they use your account information to allow warranty info. They will surely see you opened your account with a different phone and at sometime did an ESN swap to get the 7400 on the account. Unless you just added the 7400. Then they would need to know where you got the phone from, like at a Sprint store or what.

All this is just my opinion as I have no first hand knowledge on this. Glad to see it still works.

well i went to the store yesterday. they tested it said it was defective. since i don't have an insurnce they asked if i wanted to pay 55 dollars for replacement phone. at first they said that i can get another 7400, but then the woman said that they don't have 7400's in the back so she asked if i wanted 8300. i said no. then asked if i wanted 5500, i was like hell no. she told me to call back today , so i left with my phone. i called again today there are no 7400's. so i think i will stick with my defective phone for now. but i am contempalting to switch to Cingular.

i just noticed the battery on my phone has gone from 3 bars to none in 30 seconds, so i took it out and i don't think it was my battery. those idiots switched batteries yest, gave me the defective one. i am fed up with this so i definitely switching to cingualr this weekend. and also noticed that water sticker is pink and no small crosse on it. before i took it to store i had a bettery that had purple crosses.

Sorry to hear of your situation. The 8300 is a great replacement especially if you care not of the tethering capabilities. Looks a little less rugged but that is no biggie. For the 55 dollars, I'd do it.
