Hello!
As some of you may know, I'm currently looking into renewing my contract with Sprint. I've called Retentions twice now and have not received what I'm looking for (although I'm working with Niklaus now and he seems to be 1000% better).
The basic problem is that my friend is a Sprint employee and wants to refer me to their SERO plan. However, SERO plans are only for new customers, so I'm ineligeable. But what if I did the following:
1) Cancel with Sprint (I'm out of contract)....ask to port my number to a pre-paid carrier
2) Stay with pre-paid carrier for one week (or however long)
3) After the one week is up, sign up with Sprint and their SERO plan as a new line of service...
4) Ask for the number to be ported from pre-paid provider to Sprint.
Would this be possible? Moreover, how would I go about doing this? I've never "ported" a number before...so I'm completely new at this.
I apologize if this has been posted before. I did a search and could find nothing on the subject.
Thank you in advance. :tu:

to port the number you need to contact the pre-paid service and have them port it over, when they do, your sprint acct. 'auto' cancels (because we have no number to provide services to)
when it's time to come back to sprint, let us know you want to port your number in. simple simple ( so it seems )
btw SERO is awesome. and lastly GOOD LUCK :tu: hopefully everything will go smoothly

Niklaus...youve been so helpful. Thank you a million times over.
So to confirm, FIRST I would sign up with the prepaid service, ask them to port my number over from sprint. THEN I cancel the service from sprint. I repeat the process (backwards, of course) a week later to get back on a SERO plan as a new customer. Do I have that right?
Two questions:
1) Is there a time limit between porting numbers? I mean, if I cancel with Sprint on Feb 1st and port back to Sprint on a SERO plan on Feb 7th, are any flags raised?
2) Is there any other way to keep the number while starting a new line of service (without porting?)? In other words, can Sprint place a "hold" on the number and then when I come back as a new customer in 7 days, request my old number?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I've said before, you rock! :headbang2

A number remains locked for 60 days after deactivation, then it goes back into the pool.
An account remains forever, even if it's been expired for years, so you may have trouble going back to Sprint, especially with the same number.

what are you talking about??? :irked:
he's asking, 'if he ports his number out' how long he would have to wait before he can port his number back...

I was just explaining the "official" time frame. Not saying it's always that way though.
If he ports out, he can port back, and theoretically do this at any time.
Porting back, and trying to get SERO probably won't work though, especially within 7 days.

This suggestion about porting out and back seems to be the only way to keep the number for me to get SERO.
I'm thinking about Tracfone ($20 for 60 days) as the phones are virtually free.
Has anyone actually ported to Tracfone and back to Sprint? If so, how long between ports?

I'm uncertain if you can even port to a pre-paid service. I should look into it and see what I can find. I think thier numers are different than ours. I'll look around and see if numbers can go to and fro like that... ;)

To be considered a new customer, a subscriber has to be gone for 60 (no way around it) days. That is the only way Sprint will consider ucbedge a new customer. That will be the only way to get the Zero plan. You could also keep calling, and bagging like other have done.

Why go through all this trouble? Why not call *2, tell CSR u want to cancel. They put u to retentions, retentions can give u a SERO equivalent plan for same price and u can keep your old number. Hell they might even give u a free phone, also retentions gave me a better and cheaper plan than SERO.

I've done everything but call *2. Multiple e-mails. Most recently I e-mailed Business ECare and was offered nothing more than what I could fine on the web site. He confirmed that I should sign up through the SERO site and can't keep my number.
I might try on the phone, but am asking myself how much my number is worth, relative to the $20 for 60 day temporary switch to another carrier.
I have also read that no carrier will port a number to an existing line, that you MUST add a new line.
