As far as I know, Sprint's official plan is still to reserve EV-DO rel 0 primarily for major metropolitan areas, not to plaster it across the entire network. EV-DO rel A will supposedly roll out across the entire network in 2007.

:wow: that's easy to answer for 1 the 9000 is discountinued already (i think) so when 2007 comes you probably won't be able/want to buy it

there will also be better phones out by 2007

if you want the 9000 now just buy it

see but the whole purpose is to work for ev-do and if ev-do rel.a comes out then its practically gunna be useless. by the way i talked to my manager in getting me a refurbed one from another district. wat do you think though

the 9000 is a great phone, EVDO aside...much improved camera vs the predecessor 5600, lots of internal memory, removable memory, ready link, QVGA screen, great browser, etc...I had the toshiba 4050 then the 5600, and now the 9000 since last Oct and don't have a bad thing to say about the phone...I live in NYC so I have the added benefit of super fast browsing and application usage at EVDO speeds...but as I said, I'd have bought the phone even without EVDO in my area...

there will undoubtedly be much better phones out in 2007....more powerful, wifi, bluetooth, etc might all be the norm by then...but that is 12-24 months away depending on when in 2007 the phones hit the street...if you want to upgrade phones now, get the 9000...you might very well get 2+ years usage out of it before something else even catches your eye...that's the nature of technology...you can always wait for something smaller/cheaper/faster to hit the market because it is only months away...and when you buy something, it is almost always out of date within months...that said, if you keep waiting, you'll probably explode...the laptop I bought one year ago is pathetically out of date with the dual core systems being released today, but I can't say I'm sorry I bought it because it fit my needs/desires at the time...

1) The eventual rollout of EV-DO Rel A will not render Rel 0 "useless." Indeed, Rel 0 has not rendered 1xRTT "useless" either--the difference in speed is actually not that noticeable unless you happen to be using your phone as a modem for a laptop.

If I were going to worry about the "uselessness" of my MM-9000, I would actually worry much more about other technologies, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and MediaFlo, which might later prove "indispensable." But I myself simply could not wait any longer for a phone that could act as a song player, a movie player, a GPS, a television, a reasonable-quality camera, a GameBoy, an email reader, a Web browser, a Googler, a Spanish-English dictionary, a multi-language Bible, etc.

2) If you are getting a cut-rate price on a refurb, go for it!

What exactly are the specifications of rev.A compared with that of rel.0?

edit: Oh, guess I found my own answer: http://www.qualcomm.com/technology/1xev-do/revA.html

God Bless Google!
