Now that I have EV-DO capability, I'm really looking for some good wap sites I can access from my phone. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of selection. Of course you have the SprintUsers.com wap site, and from there you can get to The Mobile Onion (http://mobile.theonion.com). I've been trying to search for some decent wap sites, but there doesn't seem to be a good comprehensive list.

Post your cool wap sites here, I'll start it off. http://maximtogo.com looks like it would be an okay site, but it requires flash, which I don't know if you can download that to your phone.

What are YOUR favorite waps?

While I can't post the links here, check donblay (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/member.php?u=16743) and LouieLouieohoh (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/member.php?u=11431)'s signatures for the two best WAP FREE ringtone sites out there.

I'm also going to PM you about a lil' something as well :D

With EV-DO and a Sanyo MM-9000, it has become much easier simply to use Opera Mini, a real (full HTML) Web browser, rather than WAP. Even this forum, I prefer to read in full HTML on Opera Mini rather than in WAP on the native Vision browser.

Well yeah, but Opera is limited. For example, WAP-only sites can't be viewed on Opera and sites with downloads, like the ones I mentioned, can't be used on Opera. And a lot of people seem to have problems staying logged in when browsing this site on Opera. I haven't tried it myself, though.

Don't get me wrong, I've loved Opera from the beginning but it's sloooooow. Everything's routed, and it seems the server they're routing to is either bogged down or is just slow as heck. Speed improved a little with the newer version, but it's still pretty slow on both of my phones.

In the same light I suppose it's worth mentioning that at least the PV Samsungs will now "convert" webpages in its native browser for optimum viewing. Opera Mini is still a must-have for all phones, though, IMO.

Yes, Opera Mini relies on a server to reformat Web pages for the small screen. This is both its greatest virtue and most serious drawback. Opera Mini is able to present Web pages in an enjoyable, easy-to-read format, but at the cost of significant delay while the server reformats each page.

Native Vision browsing has indeed been improved on the new EV-DO phones. Full HTML pages rarely give "Error, restart your browser" anymore; but they still can result in an unreadable mess, or occasionally worse.

Besides its file downloading capability, the Vision browser also has the advantage of Media Player invocation. In other words, sites like Pod2mob and Zoovision work correctly only in the Vision browser, not in Opera Mini.

Very true. Try visiting Slashdot on the native browser, and then try it on Opera. Soooo much better in Opera. :)

I digress, so back on topic: Another WAP page I suggest (another that won't work in Opera, much to my dismay) is the personalized Google Homepage. Since I work on both a Mac and a Windows machine, I desperately miss my dashboard widgets while I'm roaming on a PC. I use Google's personalized home page to hold me over, which basically runs mostly on RSS feeds.

Listening to police scanner frequencies, actually, is pretty entertaining. Especially when you live so close to Baltimore. Kind of lets you know what parts of town you NEVER want to go to :p Unfortunately there isn't anything on there in MD, so I didn't even try to listen. I'll give it a shot tomorrow though, for kicks.

Cause the ringtones on 3gforfree are very poor quality can hardly hear your phone ring with them plus the site has bugs that would destroy your phone. I have not, however I have read about this on the Opera Mini forums. If you have higher image quality selected, disable it. You may need to disable the smooth font option as well. Hopefully this will fix the problem for you--has to do with the heap memory size in your phone. The folks at Opera are aware of it and are working on it.

If this doesn't fix it, switching to the lo-fi version would be another option.

Yeah, as I've downloaded a few ringers from here, most of them are unuseable for use as ringers. They did have this hilarious clip from Tommy Boy when he's talking about his pet sale!! I flipped my wig when I heard it again!!!

Yeah, 3gforfree does seem to blow hard after further inspection.

Excellent list cliffr39! One of the sites I got to from that list was this one http://wapreview.com/blog/ and unlike so many others, these guys do in-depth reviews of wap sites. The site is still young but it's choc full of info., yet still small enough to stay tight. If you don't want the wordy reviews, then just click on Wap directory (http://wapreview.com/index.php) or Wap portal (http://yeswap.com/) (the original site you provided) from that page. 3gforfree pales in comparison with donblay's and louie's acc ringers. however i think the qcp quality is the same low volume quality anywhere. 3gforfree has never messed up my phone that i am aware of. it was good when i needed a quick ringtone fix, however again they stopped updating their ringtones often. all you need to do is go back once every two months maybe theres 5 new ringers.

^5 to donblay and louie for providing awesome services. now just add more reggae!!
now ima check out that grits page for some 'good rap'.

Your right qcp ringers are low quality in volume mostly on the sanyo and samsung phones. On my toshiba 4050 qcp ringers sound like aac tones and m4a tones. But since that phone only good qualitys was the screen and memory i now own a sanyo 8300. Oh just cause the toshiba had loud tones dont mean they were by any means clear. Tones will always sound better on sanyo and most samsung phones.

Do you mean something that would turn your camera phone INTO a webcam? If so, then no... and I doubt that will ever happen. If that's not what you mean, then I am lost. :indiff:

SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
