Hi, I'm new here. I just purchased a USB data cable and installed the software that came with it. I have been able to transfer files to the handset but unable to use them. They don't show up as ringers (qcp/ less than 30 secs) or pictures. I can download via DBringers and Focus, just not sure what I'm doing wrong using the file manager.

Thanks,
John

Connecting to phones through a data cable is primarily read-only, meaning you will only be able to pull files from the phone, not put them on the phone.

Yeah... You specifically mentioned QCP, which is why I said that. If you just read the FAQ at BitPim, it will tell you all about what you can and can't do. Unfortunately, you can't do much. :indiff:

now I'm really confused- did I read the wrong FAQ ? BitPim seems to say it can transfer ringers/pictures via a cable to the handset.

No, I double-checked it, and unless they've all of the sudden changed the way things work, they say it can transfer ringers/wallpapers FROM the headset, to your computer. There aren't any non-mass storage devices that will let you write multimedia TO the phone, only read from it with software like BitPim. From their site for Samsung models, minus a few which have even less features:

BitPim can read and write the phonebook and calendar. Wallpaper (and pictures), and ringers can be read from the phone.
