Just joined the site but have read up on forums here for a while now and have helped me out in the past.

I have been with sprint since 99 and recently upped to a a900 from my old trusty sanyo 5500, and got the railroad about the vision to pvision. i dont really send text messages to anyone but i do upload ringers alot (using focus and funformobile)

my question is does uploading ringers to your phone via focus or ffm qualify as a text message? or does it use the evdo network. i ask because sprint cs told me that uploading a ringer does not count as a text because it uses the web (meaning web message sent to your phone) i ususally dont even open the text i recieve from ffm and just hit go option and then download commences.

i ask this because i am thinking of using the basic $15 pv plan being i previously had the $15 unlimited vision and railroaded to pv ultimate (pics and vid i can just send to my pc via the usb cable and dont really need to upload it so the basic would be just fine) and being that text messaging is now not included i dont want to get hit with charges.

now is the sprint cs rep smoking soomthing or is it true that uploading a ringer and retriving it via the message the site sends not considered sms but rather evdo now through the web.

and lastly if i use aim via the web on the phone is that considered a text message (meaning charged for it) or does it fall under unlimited web.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, those text messages do count against you. Supposedly with the newer phones, you can just NOT open the text and it won't count against you. However, I would suggest just using Rumkin's uploader. Actually, you can do the same thing with Funformobile, I believe...

Leave the phone number portion blank or put in a phony number (perhaps your home landline number or something). Both uploaders will give you a URL to browse to from your phone to download the file, thus eliminating the need for a text message. If you have an account with Funformobile, then you know they give you a locker. I prefer Rumkin only because that uploader lets you title your ringtone/wallpaper. There is a sticky at the top of this forum about uploaders if you're interested in some other ones.

thank you, i think thats why i havent seen a charge for the 40 texts i have recieved from ffm, being that i just select the mesage and hit options instead of view and i hit the go option. :wavey:
