I have just developed a problem with 7400, which I only have for 2 months. When a new voice mail is left, I do not get the icon or the sound alert even though phone is set properly. I have people tell me that they left a voice mail, and when I check my voice mail, the message is there, but I do not get the icon or the sound to alert me of the message. I called tech assistance, got 2 different people who advised take the battery in, and out, press this , check this or that. They advised I go to the store to have the tech check the phone out. The store claims its a network problem. They claim the phone is ok, and to call Tech assistance again. I called .
The tech reset the voice Mail and remove all voice mails and had me save a new voice mail message. It still does not work. He claimed its a phone problem, and to go back to the store!
Anyone ever have this problem? What should I do? Any ideas on what hte problem is?

Yep, apparently my 7400 is having the same problem, after reading your post, I called myself from the landline......... and no alert. This seems to indicate that it's a network issue, not the phones. Guess I'll have to call Sprint Tech myself, and see what's up, and lets keep each other up on the latest. :irked:

How did you make out? I have a question re the 7400 . Are you supposed to get the icon and the alert every time you get a new voice mail , if you do not open the phone, or does it only list and alert the first time? Also, is the new voice mail indicated every time one is left on the EVENT LIST, or only the first time? I appreciate your help since I got nowhere with Sprint at the store and on the phone.

I'm pretty sure if you get more than one voice mail before you open your phone, it will show one alert, (the little yellow envelope with a "V" on it) but all the voicemail calls/#'s will be logged into your events list so you can see all the info on all missed calls. On mine, all missed calls show on the internal display as soon as I open the phone. I think I answered your question! By the way, when I turned my phone on today, I got a audible voicemail alert, on calls that came in yesterday, so maybe whatever the problem was got fixed. Update: just called myself again, left message, alert now works, everything fine now.

So what you are saying is that your Event List itemizes each voice mail that comes in? My phone does not do this, and this may be one of the problems they need to address. Please let me know. I am glad your phone is OK

Correct, all missed calls are listed, whether there is a voicemail with it or not, since some people just hang up without leaving a voicemail. If a voicemail is attached, you know right away with the little envelope icon on the external display with a little "V" in it. (and of course, with the audible alert) Are you at least getting the audible alert now when you get a voicemail? Mine seemed to have fixed itself.

I got the voice mail alert once , tried it again and then did not get it.
The event list lists the missed calls, but only lists voice mail as coming in one time, even though 3 may have been left.

Well, it can't hurt to give Sprint Tech a call, explain to them what's going on. If you don't have this # already, try this one 1-866-884-4534 a Tech person may be able to help. It's worked for me a couple of times. Good luck.

Quick question: when you check your voice mail, do you "disconnect" from the system by pressing * or do you just hang up via end/close flip?

I just close the flip. Is this incorrect?

This has been going on for a long time, its a sprint thing. Its always been if you have one voicemail and another comes in after it, you never get notified by your voicemail tone, only if you look at it and see how many peope called. In the book it tells you to go to settings and messaging then voicemail and its supposed to list your calls, well it doesn't, it just shows a time and date of one of the calls, good luck if you find an answer. The only way right now is through the events key as somebody already posted that.

Yes, you are right, I just called myself from my landline twice, it alerted me the 1st time, not the 2nd. The 1st call showed as "Voicemail", the 2nd time it was listed as "Missed Call." For me, if I go to Settings> Messaging> there is no Voicemail listed to click on. All my missed calls are shown as soon as I open the flip anyway. At least when you go to get the one voice mail that alerted you, you'll automatically be told you have 2, 4 or whatever more voicemails that you might not have been aware of. But I never really noticed this, and it does seem odd that it works that way. When you say it's a "Sprint thing" do you mean all phones are like this, or just the 7400?

I believe so, I'm not to sure about the new samsumgs but all of the sanyo's have done this, the other thing I learned is if you push and hold the camera button on the outside of the 7400 with the phone closed it goes into Voice recognition mode and you can make a call that way, that may have been posted I figured it out using that huge book of useless knowledge in spanish too.

My previous phone was the VM4500, I believe the big light would continue to flash until the message or v-mail was cleared. Great phone, let us know it you get a hold of a sprint tech and what their advice is.

My husband and I both have this problem and went through the same thing you did. He has an old Samsung and I have a Blackberry 8703e. We do not get alerts.
