I'm trying to figure out if my Sanyo can be used as a data modem. I don't want to access the internet or the Sprint Network. I must dial into a lot of Unix systems for my job that aren't on my corporate network (so VPN won't work.) The phone shows up fine under my Windows XP laptop. I have both a serial port, and a USB Sanyo Modem. Using connection manager, I can access the Sprint Network, so I know the modem is functioning.

When I try to dial a number either through Dial up networking or Hyperterminal I get a "No Carrier Message". I've tried everything psooible to try and ge this to work, but have been unsuccessfull.

1. Is it possible what I'm try to do?
2. How do you do it?

Thanks,

Jeff

You are referring to one of the capabilities of the old Wireless Web service. Wireless Web permitted direct modem-calling of regular phone numbers, for either data or fax.

Unfortunately, my recollection is that right from the first release of Vision, Sanyo Vision phones had disabled the Wireless Web capability entirely (in favor of Vision only). At the time, I noticed that Samsung phones still retained it (along with Vision). I do not know whether Samsung phones can still do Wireless Web today. I especially doubt whether Samsung EV-DO phones still retain Wireless Web capability.

yeah the phones are made only to connect using the vision network, meaning, the #777
