Hi guys. I finally got my A900 in the other day and have been loving it ever since. Yesterday though I had my phone with me in class, and without warning started getting flooded with text messages like this "From:Unkown ---Message--- AIM: New IM from PreciousOne1254. http://wim2.aol.com/?c=gam&b=PreciousOne1254&service=sprint36&TID=1"
Now I do have AIM, however i have no idea who PreciousOne is, or why i'm getting messages from them from an unknown sender when i never log into AIM on my phone. Also the link is invalid, when i go to it on my phone it takes me to the AIM sign on screen and tells me i'm not logged in anymore.
Since about noon yesterday i've gotten 328 messages just like this.... and Sprint said the only thing they can do is turn off all text messages, which i use a lot.
HELP?!?!?!

lol omg. ok heres what ya do.

1. go on ur computer sign on with the screen name you signed on with your phone.
2. AOL will send u an IM saying u are signed on in 2 locations.
3. IF you read that IM it will say to type 1. and send it. and it will sign off the other location.
4. Do that!
5. It will sign off the other one.
6. Now sign off that SN on your computer. and your ok now.. breathe lol. You wont get ANY more IM's.
7. SPREAD THE WORD TO STOP THE THREADS!!! DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT SIGN ON AIM USING THE SIGN ON SCREEN ANYMORE!! ITS ALL SCREWED AND YOU WILL CRY ALL NIGHT BECAUSE YOUR GETTING 100 TEXTS A NIGHT!
8. Sign up to the free service AIM has now. AIM SMS. its 100000x better. it works. you dont get 1000 texts over night. and you dont have to wait for stupid loading screens when sending IM's. You just send IM's just like you woud send a text message. SimPLe! and better. move on. kthxbye

Well, it could be a couple of things. It could be that someone has set up IM Forwarding and used your phone number (unlikely, as I think you need to respond to a verification text from AOL when you set up IM Forwarding), OR... check this for me...

Do ##786# from the main screen and go into System. Check the refurbishment status and also check the Life Timer and Life Data. Make sure all those fields make sense. In other words, would any of those numbers lead you to believe you're not the original owner of the phone?

This happened to a friend of mine with a 5600. The original owner had very recently exchanged the 5600 for another phone and text messages and voicemail notifications would still come in to the phone. This is possibly the case. If so, you can call Sprint and get your MSL code from them and they can walk you through resetting the phone to factory settings and should walk you through provisioning the phone again. This would fix the problem, in theory. Worked for my friend.

What about setting AIM to only allow IMs from users on your buddy list? Keeps a lot of spam out.
