I am sure this has been answered before, but it is hard to sift out the info I need.

Basically I have a sanyo 8100 that is on its last leg. I will be getting a new phone soon. I want to use the phone as a modem on my laptop. I currently do not have any vision plans.

a.) If I get a basic phone like sanyo 2300 and get basic vision, can i use it as a modem? Will it be 1xRTT speed (50-90) or will it be slower? Will it use any of my minutes or will i be charged any extras per minute and or mb? How do i set this up with Dial up networking? I remember it being #777, but what will be user name and what is password?

b.) If I get a Power vision phone can i use it as a modem at EVDO speed? Will I need to buy a power vision plan? Should I sign up for vision now before getting a new phone so that I will be GF'd? I hear that mentioned alot here but am not sure what it means.

c.What if I do (a.) above but not get a vision plan. Do they charge per minute or per megabyte or just use minutes?

The Sanyo 2300 modem option was disabled. Some of the 1xrtt phones ARE modem capable though. Check out Sprint.com/downloads and then click on the sprintpcs phone as modem usb cables connection manager for the list of phones supported by Sprint 1xrtt and 1xEV

Really no need to get a normal vision plan when that AND power vision start out at $15 a month. If you get a Power Vision phone you COULD in theory disable the modem NAI and user regular power vision. It wouldn't be supported but it would be a fun project for you, LOL. My suggestion, PPC 6700. Easy, assign drivers for modem, build connection in Windows (assuming you are using Windoze) and you are set. You know, its as easy as #777

You are charged at .03 per kb until you hit the cap, which is $150. It adds up quickly though and $15 a month is worth it
