View Full Version : Power Vision and Web surfing
Hi, I'm thinking of getting myself a Power Vision phone but have a couple of questions:
I'm travelling a lot and use my current PCS phone to connect to the internet via data-cable. If I would upgrade to a Power Vision phone could I do the same thing but faster? Also ARE there even any data cables out to do that and how does Sprint stay on the issue when Power Vision people use their phone as a modem? (Any restrictions on data transfer...._
Anyone has any experience?
I understand that I don't necessarily need a Power Vision plan but can keep my old Vision plan (I don't care about music store and downloads on the phone..) With a new phone to get the Hi Speed. Correct?
Also, if I'm in an area that doesn't support the Power Vision can I still connect to the internet like I do right now with my new phone?

Depending on the phone, Sprint gives you the cable--I can't verify this for all models, however. There are some threads about this already that would have more detailed information.

Correct? Yes, but you have to do an ESN swap. There are lots of other threads about this, too, with some more detailed information.
Also, if I'm in an area that doesn't support the Power Vision can I still connect to the internet like I do right now with my new phone? Yes, your phone will just connect to the regular ol' Vision network.

1. yes, you can do the same thing, and it will be faster
2a. every new phone is sent out with a cable for just that purpose, along with PictBridge and in some cases Mass Storage to transfer music, etc.
2b. heres how sprint keeps track of whos using it: the new phones are designed to change the username when plugged into the usb cable and recognized by the computer. There has to be a matching username on sprints side for it to be accepted, and the only way to get that username is by adding the Flexible Data Plan (40MB for $25). that plan includes all power vision, Sprint TV Ultimate, Picturemail/videomail, and you start out at a peak data allotment of 40MB. (overage is .02/kb, but the plan peaks out at $70, making it an unlimited plan after that)
So therefore, you wont be able to use your grandfathered vision pack with this device. Not to mention, codes in the system automatically require an ev-do (power vision) pack for vision, so it wont allow you to keep your old vision pack anyways.
3. the phone has the capability of high speed, so as long as its setup right on our side, it will get those speeds. but like i stated earlier, a power-vision pack is going to be required either way.
4. the phone is capable of high speed(ev-do) and regular vision speed(1xRTT), so it will change from one to the other freely depending on what is picked up.
DISCLAIMER: What i stated about the required plan changes are per sprint. if you get away with it, more power to you. just know it may not last.
How do you connect thru Power Vision to the internet? The same as with regular Vision (Create New Connection '#777') or does it work differently?

One question, (I didn't want to start a new thread) the $10 Sprint PCS Vision Access Pack is Powervision? As is the Sprint PCS Vision Plus Pack with the pic and vid mail options?

No and No. The Power Vision packs will have "Power Vision" in the title. The three packs available are explained in the first few posts of this thread.

Would you mind helping me find the Sprint page where I would add a power vision package to my plan?

You have to have a Power Vision phone. Currently those are the Samsung A900, A920, A940 and the Sanyo 9000.

same way, uses the same number. its just that the network you connect to could be faster. even while using your phone as a modem it still will jump from evdo to vision when changing coverage areas.
