Well, at the start of every billing cycle I clear all my messages becuase I will then have a real time count on my fone as opposed to the delay on sprints site. Well, last bill I sent 220 messages and recieved 423. I have the 500 for 8 bucks now. Well on my bill it said, texts used 220. This current bill (text have been unactive for 4 days now) so the site should be up to date. I have 51 recieved and 41 sent. Sprint site says I have used 40 texts. Is it safe to asume that I'm getting free incoming texts?? Or do you think they'll catch this error

*****EDIT****** Sprint is bound to find mistakes on my account as I have still yet to be charged for my 6700

I'm pretty sure its always been this way. They don't really advertise this but its been confirmed to me by numerous people at sprint over the years. They say its cause sprints billing system can't tell the difference between texts from sprint and ones from sprint customers and since they can't charge you for ads they send out via sms and such they just made all incoming from sprint and sprint customers free.

All incoming SMS messages should be free. Unlike a phone call which you can choose not to take, you cannot choose whether to receive an incoming SMS message or not.

I agree with you on that one or at least carriers should do what T-Mobile used to do. Up until mid last year T-Mobile used to include 50 free incoming texts with all voice plans. While its not unlimited, at least it gave people a little flexibility. To me if carriers actually thought about it they would realize offering free incoming texts would probably even out in the end anyway. I know there are lots of times where I would send someone a text but I don't know if they have a text plan or not so instead I call them. I am sure there are many people that would send an extra 50-100 texts a month if they didn't have to worry about getting their friend charged 10 cents for receiving a text. I may have an unlimted plan but most other text users across all cariers probably don't and this would only make the carriers extra money without inconviniencing people with incoming text charges.

It was certianly not always like this. Last year december, my friends sycho g/f text my fone uncontrollably I only had the included 100 messages at the time and only sent about 30. I called to see about a block, but at that time they did not have the ability to block messages (now they do) Called up on about the 20th and ask them that, along w/ how many were used they said i was being charged for over a thousand messages So they agreed to clear all but 10 dollars w/ of charges if i signed up for unlimited texts for 5 a month. To top it off that person sending me messages was a sprint user. This is why I brought it up becuase through my experience it didn't used to be like this.

I do beleive T-mobile you can actually choose to accept or decline a message, one of my friends has it, but i'm 95% sure it was Tmobile

This here is straight from ecare about it and is valid if you are not on a messaging plan or have text included in your plan:

There is no charge for receiving the text messages from the Sprint PCS
number. If you receive the messages from the other service providers,
you will be charged $0.10/message.

The following are the text messaging plans that Sprint offers:

Sprint SMS Text Messaging:

100 text messaging for $5.00/month
500 .......................... for $8.00/month
Unlimited ................. for $15.00/month

Overage for the first two options is $0.10/message[I]

Hope that helps to clarify

I use alot of text messages and generally don't complain about things i know i signed up for but getting charged for incoming texts is ridiculous. Often times peoples service/phone/whatever it may be is messed up and i get 5 of the same messages sometimes days apart and i dont think i should be charged $.50 for that. I'm even willing to live with the fact that my phone on occasions likes to say sending failed then i resend and it ends up sending out multiple messages.
