After taking thousands of pictures with my A700, and spending hundreds of hours watching MobiTV on it, it was time to get rid of old faithfull. I bought my A920 and am glad I did.
Pro's:
The Sprint TV on EV-DO looks like normal TV and the sound is excellent, especially when using the provided stereo ear buds. While using the ear buds, I have to turn the volume down to the first level it sounds to loud and good.
The stereo speakers on the sides of the hinge are great also. I listen to Sirius radio while playing racquet ball and people from outside want to know what I'm listening to. When I show them the A920 they can't believe that I can hear the music over the loud noise of playing. (Have already received two #REF credits from showing it to people at the gym, who then went and bought one for themselves.)
The camera works better than the A700. I used to have to manually change the white balance on the A700 but I leave it on AUTO on the A920 and have had no problems at all.
The video camera is 100% better than the A700. The video almost looks as good as an actual digital video cam. Don't talk near the phone while recording. The mike is so sensitive it sounds like your shouting.
EV-DO, what can I say. After using the old school speed for two years day in and day out, the EV-DO is a miracle. Pictures from the web load instantly. Songs and ringtones load in one or two seconds. It's fun to watch the blue bar fly by so fast.
The screen has been improved over the A700. Pictures fill the entire screen, no white area around the edges. Pic's are shown larger, you can move from left to right, up and down to view them.
Memory Card. This is the first time I've had a phone with a card. I bought the 512 M card and put it in the phone. I put all of my pics and videos on the card and then show them to clients in hospitals and hospices. People can't believe how many pictures and 30 second video clips I have in the phone. It makes it easier to show also. The old way was download it from your online albums. Now just click from the memory card and show them instantly.
Picture mail is totally diferent now. Photo's are stored for sending so you can work on other applications at the same time. Incoming photo's are automatically saved in an inbox so you look at them instantly when you get the alert.
The job shuttle on the outside of the flip is wonderfull. With the flip closed, you can change channels on Sirius and Sprint TV. Can't wait until I figure out how to put songs on the memory card so I can listen to them.
The favorite button is cool. Just push it and all of your programmed favorites are there, making it easy to access app's and features.
The speaker phone works great. Listening to Voice Mails is so much easier. People can't tell i'm on it unless the surrounding area is really noisy.
There are two ways to charge the phone. With the included plug type charger or with the good old pin type charger.
Con's:
You can't add words to the T-9 dictionary. I hope Samsung realizes how much we need this feature. Not a deal breaker though. Just have to do some extra finger pushing now.
The battery lasts half the time of the A700. After two or three hours of pictures, texting and Sprint TV it's dead. I have to use my cigarette lighter plug while in the car so it stays charged.
Texting is a little harder on the A920 than the A700. The keys are smaller and closer together. I could fly on the A700 but I have to watch my fingers on the A920.
The small sub screen go's black when you open the flip. I miss the screen on the A700. I always used to look at it for the time, etc. while the flip was open. Hopefully Samsung will fix this like the T-9 dictionary bug.
The Samsung browser needs to be updated. I thought for sure they would install a browser like ReqWireless or Opera but it still is the same old browser.
Still no covers available at the Sprint store. I've had to carry it or put it in my pockets since I bought it. I can't tell you how many times I dropped my A700 but the case protected it and it doesn't have a scratch on it.
All in All, I'm glad I put old faithfull in the rest home and upgraded to the A920. It was well worth the $150.00 price tag ($150.00 after all of my credits).
Now I have to write a review for the A900 that my wife has and won't let me touch. LOL :haha:
