View Full Version : Getting rid of AIM thru Vision

I have unlimited MB of pcs vision, so i was playing around with stuff. I go to 'messaging' and then 'instant messaging', select 'AOL instant messenger' and then logged on. I looked at it and thought 'hey ok this could be kind of useful but not right now because i can just use my computer', so I logged off. I talked on my computer for a while then came back to my phone and i had 400 something new text messages, all AIM notifications. I turned my phone off, then on again, and I still recieve the notifications. I guess maybe I am still logged in? When I signed on my computer after I turned my phone on it said I was logged in in 2 locations.

Basically these AIM notifications are really annoying and I want to just stop getting them, and stop using AIM altogether on my phone. Is there any simple way to stop getting notifications? AOL.com has a mobile place but I can't get any information regarding what i logged into through vision. Also, did I suddenly pay for something new by going into messaging and signing into AIM? I didn't download any application or anything, and it never told me i was going to be charged for anything upon logging in. I don't see any new charges on my account summary, but still..

I called sprint service and she told me to go to "my content manager" to disable AIM, but I never downloaded an application so there was nothing there... I went to "text messaging" on myPCS and disabled all kinds of incoming text messages and blocked aol.com and aim.com, I still get the messages. rarararararararar...

Thanks

Did you log off AIM? I know I've logged onto Yahoo and pressed end, turned the phone off, all that, but I'm still logged on as being online on Yahoo. With them though, I don't get a text from them, the messages are online. Log off and it should be fine. Also, when you log onto AIM on your computer, and it says you're logged onto 2 locations, type and send "1" to log off the others, do that. That'll make sure you're not logged onto any other devices.

As for being charged, I don't know. I got one text from someone on AIM then logged off, for fear of being charged. I sent a few texts that month so I didn't notice one extra on there.

if you go back to aim, go to the aim menu, theres an option to log off. otherwise it will keep you logged in unless you sign it off using the "1" from above, regardless if your phone is connected to vision or not.

Aim logs off so when you get a message you have to log back in and theres no message. Is the pay aim worth it?

Wait! Wait! I love My AIM on My phone but only when it comes in as text messages using short codes.
Yet I also decided to log in through vision so I could see what it looked like and now I only get text messages with a link and I have to log in each time instead of just replying to the message.
Please tell Me how to fix it!

If you forward ims to mobile from your pc it sends the text you can reply to i believe. You can save the number you reply to and send anytime instead of only replying.

Okay I found this guide to AIM mobile text messaging:

http://aolmobile.aol.com/pdf/AOL_Mobile_IM_Services-Full_Service_Mobile_IM_User_Guide.pdf

It explains how to log on through text using one set of short codes for AllTell, Cingular & Cricket and another set for Cingular, T-Mobile and Verizon.
But Sprint is not listed so I just tried them both and it worked. I would really like to use some of the other features listed in the user's guide but would hate to have to type in both short codes each time. Some of the featurres I would like to remember

So any idea which carrier set Sprint would follow?

aim sucks on my phone...i had to shell out the 2.99 for the aim program that they are selling now..and it works better....but it was probably just a way of them to get my money.....i'm still testing this thing out...

try the texting way, it's so much easier.
it sends the message as a text that can be replyed to.
I posted the link to the users guide above.
other people see Me as logged in mobile and I just get texts instead of a link to log in, I love it!

Is that $2.99/month or a onetime thing? I wouldn't mind paying one time, but monthly, that's dumb.

yeah it's 2.99 a month...but it was such a pain in the azz having my phone shut off, and saying that i was logged on in 5 different locations...i will be getting rid of this thing at the end of the month...it uses up a lot of my battery...
