Hi, ok I just learned I could stream media to my MM phone through a RTSP server I have Helix and the Apple Darwin Server and I think that I have a better shot with Helix but I would like to use Darwin but I cannot figure out the whole Perl thing for the life of me it said I installed it wrong which I don't understand I think that the Perl interpreter which I downloaded as ActivePerl it gives me a message along the lines of Perl is not installed correctly please read the readme file and I've been doing so much research over the past two days and I would LOVE nothing but to get this working. So my actual questions are 1.Do I need to make a website to stream to? 2.Where can I get a good freeware program to convert videos to 3gpp? 3.Can someone PLEASE give a little bit of a walkthrough with Darwin? Thanks

I don't know jack about any of your other issues, but there's a tutorial in the FAQ section for your question above.

check out this thread:

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67171

read through the whole thing. i know its long, but everything you need is in there. i myself posted a bunch of links to sites on how to set up darwin and perl. i tried helix but you have to pay for the upgrade to stream mp4 files. so i switched to darwin cause its free and worked great.

to answer your questions, you do not stream from a website. you stream from your internet connection. i hope you do have broadband, and that it is always on. you need to obtain your ip address, and you stream from there. you do need a website however, to link the streams to. i used a free site i got from geocities. just make a simple page with links. so when you want to view streams, go on the web on your phone to your simple site, click on the link, and media player will open automatically.

as for a program to convert, i posted a how to in the other thread on how to use quicktime pro to convert. that is the only program i found that will work. you cannot use the method in the faq. to stream a file, the settings have to be very specific or it will not work.

again, read through the whole other thread. if you still have questions after that, then post here again and ill try to help you

Thank you SO much, I have resolved a few things 1.I got Quicktime Pro and converted my videos 2.After looking in another thread on here someone mentioned a site called freewebs.com so now I have an account there. 3I found out I had installed 5.6 of Perl not 5.8 like I was supposed to, so now I have a username and password but now I can't seem to be able to go to the website darwin mentions after setting that up it's something like http://myserver.com:1220 but you replace "my server" which I thought I did it right I replaced "my server" with what I found out was my server but doing something in the command line I typed nslookup in the command line. So I think I just need to figure out hot to get into the website Darwin says I need to go to. Thanks again.

you need to find your outside ip address, not your computers specific address. go to www.whatismyip.com to find that out. then go into your web browser and go to that address:1220. keep in mind though, there are two types of ip addresses, static and dynamic. depending on what kind of internet service you have, and you your internet provider is, they may change your ip address on you quite frequently. so if you find you cant connect to your server anymore, check that site to see if your ip has changed
