I know, I know....this has been asked a thousand times. I searched and have been looking around but got mixed views. So don't hate me...please

I've had a grandfathered vision for a long time (unlimited data, pictures, and text messages). If I purchase an EV-DO phone (such as the Samsung a900), what will happen to my vision? Will I still be able to use all of my vision capabilities without any increase in price? Am I required to upgrade to a power vision pack?

Again, sorry if this is question is asked too many times, I'm just trying to clear things up

Thanks

See what I bolded; that right there is the thing. There are many mixed views on what happens. Some have made it alright (like me, so far), while other did not (for one reason or another). Some of this could all depend on who acitvates your phone, and that you tell them.

I will tell you in about 2 days...The bill has been generated but I cant see it...However it looks right from the amount. I kept my grandfathered options and old vision codes...I have an EVDO phone...actually 3 on my account now. One line had a EVDO phone since it launched.

I've had the ppc 6700 for about 2 cycles now. Everything is normal and i have EVDO. They told me i wouldn't be able to use Vision at all when i first got my phone but i told them i didn't want to change anything, and im glad i didn't change anything b/c i've been using Power Vision since i activated my ppc 6700

To the OP, basically, if you pay full price for your phone and do a plain ESN swap (do nto let the rep even look at your plan) you'll hopefully be OK like many of the rest of us...there are a number of people here now into their second billing cycles that have not reported any problems using EVDO with older vision plans and are not getting charged for casual usage...like Ms Randall, I will know in a few days...my second billing cycle starts tomorrow...so far so good...

if you plan to use a rebate or get the phone in a store, there is a much higher likelihood of them trying to pressure you or force you onto a PV plan...don't buckle...

Today my bill was available to view online and I am happy to report NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES on my line or the extra two EVDO phones added late in the cycle. Again no additional charges!!!!!!!! I have grandfathered vision on all three EVDO phones with unlimited texting, 5 dollar content credit and picturemail.

Please understand that ONE day we are MIGHT be forced to change from our regular GF vision plans but right now it is working.

Can you tether at EVDO speeds without getting charged extra as well? I still use phone as modem on rare occasions to check email (very light usage), and am not interested in signing up for the EVDO data plans, since I don't use modem data service enough to make the cost worthwhile.

Also, while you can get EVDO speeds with your original Vision, can you access any of the new services like the TV, streaming video, etc?

you can access any of the multimedia services that you have subscribed to through your content manager...grandfathered users do not get any MM services included for free...just the faster internet access speeds...I don't tether so can't help you on that one...

Well,
I used my rebate and the rep. promised me he wouldn't change anything on my account. I had to go in today to swap two of my phones from one line to the other and the rep that did it said he had to remove my Vision and wanted me to add Power Vision. I told him to check my other phone with the a900, and he said that the previous rep. had removed the Vision. I told him not to add any Power Vision.
I called Sprint Solutions and had a Supervisor add the old Vision back on. He said that he would "uinexpire" the Vision, but that it would not work.
I e-mailed e-care and they confirmed that the Vision is back on my account for both lines, and showed me line by line how it was. It looks correct now.

So now I just need to see if I am being billed for data usage.
How do you do this? Can you do it online, or do you have to call in??

Thanks.

for data usage you have to call in...you don't see casual data charges anywhere online...if Sprint actually let customers see accumulating casual data usage online they wouldn't be able to stick it to customers at the end of the month :bang:

it shouldn't be rocket science for Sprint to list EVERYTHING on your plan online somewhere, and show you actual charges, or close to it, as they accumulate...instead you have to call *2 or the 800 # to get a lot of this info...the only thing I find the site useful for is email and a very rough estimate of minute usage...

Using my PDA, I have gotten 180kbits/sec over Bluetooth, tethered. (Power Vision, of course. Regular Vision, I get 80kbits/sec) That is 9 times the amount I got with my PM-325 over Bluetooth.

you can upgrade to a Treo 700p when it comes out in early 06 and get a Power Vision plan. EV-DO doesn't work on the Treo 650 because there is no EV-DO hardware in it.

Well when I activated my A900 they took off my Grandfathered vision without telling me I realized this called customer support they couldn't put it back on their comps wouldn't let them. I emailed sprint support and I get the business dept cuz of my account, and they put my Gf'd vision back on and my $5.00 text back on, the whole thing is make sure they dont' take it off in the first place. Dont' listen to anything they have to say about your phone needing it to work.
