hi there guys,
how do i copy music onto my transflash?
i use windows explorer, open the SD card (with adapter), and it has the following folders:
dcim, filestore, fileviewer, media. Even though the caddy's writeprotect switch is open, i even switched the caddy. Does the phone writeprotect the card?
has anyone else figured out how to play your own mp3's on the phone?
any hint would greatly be appreciated.
wen.

Are you saying when you try to add MP3's to it, it doesn't let you? You should, in theory, just be able to drag & drop the MP3's from your computer into the MEDIA folder.

nope,
i tried it on my desktop/sd reader, "write protected", and i tried on my laptop w/ sd card dongle, same thing. i made sure the write protect lever is left open. shesh.

Well, I did some searching and I've found plenty of people with the same problem, but each is entirely unique. It seems it's known enough to be able to Google it and get results, but the results are all different. Damaged card, write protect switch needing to be taped down, dirty card reader, and on and on.

I do not have this problem. I just plugged in my reader dragged my mp3 files into the media folder and BAM done. In fact I actually have music videos and video podcast on them. I just used QT (bc I have a mac) and the exported it to Movie 3G settings 3GPP Mobile MP4 and I can view them on my A940.
I do have one question for larsifer....How big a file can I send via focus to my phone. Because i want to use some of the video clips as caller ID things. And I can send pics no problem, just when I send a mp4 it wont work. Or is there another alternative?
Thanks l

I'm not sure what the file size limit is on the uploaders, but I think 500K is what most of them max out at. In order to make a video ringtone, you need Quicktime Pro because you have to export it as a 3GPP2 file (.3G2 extension, I think). However, if you have a phone with an expandable memory slot, most of them (if not all of them) will let you assign video ringtones from the card, effectively removing much worry about file size.

Ok i will try a file less than 500K. A couple things.
1. Can I upload from focus a 3GPP file?
2. When I go into contacts to assign a ringtone/video it doesn't allow me to choose a video or music from my expandable memory transflash card.
I am trying a focus upload right now brb

Focus doesn't seem to work with the 940. It actually displays the GCD file, I think, instead of using it to start the actual download. There's a sticky at the top of this MM forum for other uploaders to try.

I agree 100% with the original poster... I just tried to transfer files and I am getting a write-protected error. Even after I try to reseat the card and readjust the lock switch I get the same!

Save the .3g2 video clips into your picture folder... something like F:\DCIM\100SSMED
Then to play the video as caller id... just edit the contact and edit the ring tone go to "my videos" and select one... I don't have any videos but I have my mp3 play... so I edited an mp3 to like ~50 seconds long with date_rate: 64 kbps and sample_rate:32 000 kHz and it plays fine but anything over 64 kbps for data rate messes everything up (I get an error saying the file size is too big).... I think there is also a barrier to how long the movie can be... so far my longest one is about 59 seconds long.

I figgured out the problem.. my canon multifunction (MP390) printer's card reader has a card protect mode buried in the on-board printer options. Disable it and presto... its fixed. I suspect canon isnt the only company to do such a thing so thats that!

I bought an a940 a while ago and the card works fine and high quality sound is good.
