Post Your Speed Tests In This Area.
I'm interested to know what kind of speeds everyone is seeing.
I just did this one, I'm on the road somewhere in VA. My 9000 is teathered to my laptop.

2005-11-28 10:01:49 EST: 614 / 120
Your download speed : 614 kbps or 76.7 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 120 kbps or 15 KB/sec.

My A900, in Power Vision coverage:

I just tried a dslreports.com mobile speed test, using the Opera Mini Browser; it gave me the "connection too fast for selected download size" notice.......for the 600k option.

When tethered (to my CLIE), the highest I've gotten was 180kbits (PM-325 NEVER got over 20kbits). In legacy Vision coverage, I've gotten 80kbits tethered.

I'm in MD, now... So far it seems like I'm getting about 300k+ on average for the download speeds.

Just did another test in Tewksbury, MA. The mobile speed test (not teathered) said 327 kbit/sec 0.499s Latency 15.153s d/l time

So how much is that in KB /s? Doesn't sound like the A900 is good as a tethered modem.

You both paying for that extra service to use it as a modem or is it just working?

it works as a modem with any power vision plan

Yeah, but I thought they said these newer phones would prompt you saying you would need a seperate data plan if you tethered.

Kbits/sec is the same as kilobits per second, i.e. "56k modem......56kbps.......56,000bps"

With my PM-325, tethered over Bluetooth to my PDA, I was getting no greater than 20kbits/sec.

With the A900, connected the same way, when using legacy Vision (like the PM-325 was using).......... I was able to get 80kbits/sec.

Here, in my Power Vision area, I'm getting 180kbits/sec......tethered to my PDA, over Bluetooth. Remember, Bluetooth is the bottleneck, in this case. (But that doesn't bother me)

Now, does the A900 sound good tethered? :hee: Of course, cabled.....it would be triple the speed, I assume. If I try the Mobile Speed Test on the phone itself, it's getting "connection too fast for selected file size"......and I selected the 600k option.

(Goto: www.dslreports.com/mspeed to test on your phone, and to see what I mean.)

I do NOT have a tethering plan.....I am using my Grandfathered Vision. Yes, I am getting the "Power Vision arrows".

I'm not sure if it's right but in San Francisco downtown I get 753kB/s on my Samsung A940 using WAP.

Here is the test I did just now by using the Connection Manager on my PC. I hope I didn't rack up mega charges, but just wanted to run the speed test.

This of course was with my cable modem powered OFF.

can people please type out the full "kbps" and the KB/s... cuz I think some people are getting really confused...

abjc89.. that must have been a fluke, cuz you most certainly do not get 6mbps on ev-do... either that or it was a type-o and you meant you got 753kbps... cuz they're so amazingly different that it's unbelievable...

After using CNET's bandwidth meter three times my average download speed was 209.2 kbps. Don't know how accurate this is, but it doesn't feel excessively slow. I'm using it now, and the speed of the connection on my computer said 230 kbps, so I guess my average speed is close.

Oh yeah, but I live in New Orleans, so this could affect speed i guess.

arg! the speed you 'connect' at means absolutely nothing.. even on a 56k modem or whatever... that's just the speed you connected at, not necessarily what it's gonna run at the whole time.

when you see 230kbps anywhere in windows, it's because that's the default USB connection speed... except obviously you can do MUCH faster... it's automatic.

also.. this is quite depressing, because I have gotten faster than 200kbps on my regular vision account...

I thought you have to pay per kilobyte for tethering with a sanyo 9000? Or is it free if you have powervision?

You're supposed to have a teathered vision plan to do this.

Does it not work at all without a tethering plan or smth?

Yeah it works. But you risk being charged for the usage you incur. With these new phones it's easy for them to pick out teathered usage.
