I just moved within the last month to a different city in my state and I have had Sprint at my previous address for 7 years. The new area does not get any Sprint service at all. I live in the boonies now, and if I go onto sprint.com and enter my zip code it tells me no coverage is available in my area (duh) and my city is not even listed on the drop down list.

I have read before on here that they are "supposed" to consider you exempt from the ETF if you move to an area with no service. Well, I have tried talking to them several times, and when I say try I really mean it. The guy trying to communicate with me has the thickest accent I have ever heard and he talks too fast. I was not able to make out a single sentence he said. From what I could piece together, it sounded like he said that I should get coverage in my area and that they would not release me from my contract.

I live long distance now from all of my friends and family and I must have cell phone service that works. I want to switch to T-Mobile, as I know they just built a tower near by with in the last 90 days and get great coverage from them at my house. I would like to avoid wasting $150 on the ETF as I have too many bills now just to throw that money away. What else can I do? Thanks for any advice. :)

If you can't get service, they *technically* have to let you out of your contract.

The issue becomes the fact that they usually use a ZIP code to determine "covered" areas... If your ZIP code boundaries are really big, there *might* be areas of that ZIP code that aren't covered.

I would talk to another person, perhaps a supervisor if necessary... Maybe point out that there isn't coverage at your house but there might be coverage in other parts of that ZIP code. Another important distinction to make would be service inside versus outside... Technically Sprint doesn't guarantee coverage inside. I personally think that Sprint is pretty unreasonable in that regard... I mean, Humans *do* live in houses... And we use our cell phones in our houses... So..........

Just curious, Where did you move BTW?

Thanks for the info. I don't get any service on the main road I live off of which is about a mile outside of the main town area. Doesn't matter if I am inside or outside the house. Analog roaming doesn't even work. My girlfriend has an old At&t TDMA phone and she gets no better service than me. However, Cingular released her from her contract because of this!! But Sprint won't do jack for me!!

We moved from Seattle to Bonney Lake WA 98391.

happen to have a roaming included plan with sprint? do you get CDMA roaming there? You will most likely have to elivate your issue further. I suggest calling and asking for technical support and getting a tech to tell you if you should have coverage near you. If they determine no coverage exists in the area they should let you out of your contract.

if i get any roaming signal, it jumps between one bar and no service...all calls either cannot be dialed out or incoming calls get "signal faded" every time.

If the Sprint Web site itself says that there is no coverage in your area, perhaps you could send email to Customer Care, stating that because there is no coverage in your area you want to cancel your line without termination fee.

Actually, if you specifically said on the phone that you wanted to cancel, you should have been connected to the retention department. I would be surprised if Sprint had outsourced its retention department to non-English-speaking foreigners--that would be counterproductive.

SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information.
