it should now be clear to everyone there is no evdo update for the 6600. all those rumor people were full of it.
i gave my 6600 to my 18 year old and bought a new 6700 today. its 10 times as fast. its like windows 95 on aol and xp on broadband.
the store manager told me he has heard from many higher ups there is no update coming for the mighty old 66. not for evdo, nor for mp 10. its just aint happening he said!
i am curious tho. can any techs out there tell me, is the modem in the 6700 technically faster then the modem in the 6600?

First of all, we really don't need ANOTHER thread about the SAME thing. And secondly, there IS an update available for the 6600, it's not "official", but it does work.

Jeez - Dude... Dudette.. Whatever you are...
Give it up already. Take a "Get a Life" pill.
What do you want? An award? A medal? A piece of pie? An applauding mass of people to justify *your opinion* that there will not be an EV-DO update forthcoming for the 6600. If so: :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
We get it. You think that there will be no EV-DO update for the Sprint 6600. While I tend to agree with you that there will not be an EV-DO upgrade due to the fact that there has been no *official* statement from Sprint stating that the PPC-6600 will be upgraded (i.e. don't believe it until you see it or they say it's coming), even I'm tired of your constant trolling (and yes - you ARE trolling) of this board (and others) in order to "prove" your statement/opinion. Others have the right to believe otherwise. It's called OPTIMISM - something you're obviously devoid of.
Whether or not EV-DO will be released to the 6600 is irrelevant at this point. If your statement turns out to be true - whoopee. If not - then you look like even more of the ass than you've made yourself on this and other boards...
People have rights to their opinions - get used to it. Hopefully, your 18 year old that just received your "old" phone shows more maturity than you have... It's a phone. Get over it.

I believe they are referring to the hacked radio firmware method, I'm unaware of a simple upgrade being available...yet.

no way, I just spoke to a tier 2 and one and my rep for Sprint and he says that they are not going to release an update that will test and shut down "anyuser" that hacks a phone on their network.
who would you people brag about that?
Exactly. Couldn't have been any clearer myself. Who would you people? Who would you. That you brag about would who, indeed.

Thank you - oh great keeper of the EV-DO PPC-6600 status!
We could not live with your wisdom!

I do have a comment though. How would you go about getting provisioned with Sprint Powervision when your account shows that you have a PPC-6600? I'm not trying to get on anyone's bad side here, but if a device isn't capable of handling a particular service, most knowledgeable reps will know not to provision this phone with the service. Just my .02.

I'm not a 100% on this - My understanding is that once you're provisioned - you're provisioned. Whether or not it's 1xRTT or EV-DO - it doesn't matter.
i.e. - Once you're on the network - you're on the network. There's nothing on the network / towers that prevent the phone from receiving and utilizing the EV-DO signal. Thus the discussion on pdaphonehome.com where new users of the 6700 were telling the Sprint CS reps to NOT upgrade them to Power Vision - as they were already on the Vision plan.
That will change of course - in future, it's been documented (again there's a thread on pdaphonehome.com) that newer phones will connect to the EV-DO network with a separate ID than the one utilized currently for 1xRTT - thus - you would, at that point need to provision the phone differently.. But that's an assumption on my part - don't take any of this as fact..
