I tested the reception on my 9000 today and I'm impressed with it. I've owned a lot of phones just to name a few 4900, 8100,8200,4500, a700, 535,5600 and never had one work in my moms basement like the 9000. I placed about 10 calls with the 9000 and all them went through. The sound quality was fine and they didn't even cut in and out at all like. When I was doing the test my LG 5225 kept beeping because it was going in and out of signal. I tried the same test with the LG 5225 and a few calls dropped and most of them cut in and out. Does EV-DO improve the reception? I did also try EV-DO but it didn't work but the regular vision worked fine. I went outside and I EV-DO worked. I tried the test at another low recepiton area and got similar results. I wonder if we have a new #1 in reception?

Yes I'm surprised becasue no other phone I've owned worked as well as the 9000 in the basement.

You've had the A800/560/820/840? They all get just excellent RF. Sanyo did the correct thing and matched, if not beat them.

The "EV-DO" part of the phone has nothing to do with call quality, or reception. That's just simply fast vision, and does nothing to voice calls.

Yep, reception is great on this phone. I still get good reception even in the basement where I use it the most. Well, this was compared to my old samsung a500, which could not manage to keep reception in the basement.

Great we got another Samsung thread crapper.

Sanyo handsets from all the ones I had were better then anything in Sprints line up. My 2 year old Sanyo was soooooooo much better then my wife's Samsung 740 to the point where she would use my phone. I eventually got rid of it and bought her a Sanyo 7400 which she loves.

Pcmag also noticed the great reception on the Sanyo 9000. This is a good review article on the 9000 and the 940.

I wonder how the A800 fairs to these two new ev-do phones, as it was the benchmark before them. That would be interesting to see...

I am guessing the 9000 edges both of them out.

Are you really that suprised?I sure am surprised. Not by the 9000's reputed excellence at reception, but the idea that it took Samsung half a decade to put out a phone that's at least comparable and it only took Sanyo a few months to surpass that.

You're inferring it beats the A800.

It does have very good reception. Better than the other 5 Sanyo's I previously owned.

The 9000 is the best phone right now for receprtion. I think as more and more phones from different suppliers (i.e.Motorola/Nokia) get released the Sanyo reception will be matched if not BEATEN. I have really high hopes for Motorola!

Nobody knows how to screw something up like Motorola, but we'll see.
