The 9000 camera has a night mode so the low light pictures are better than the 5600 but I'm not sure if there as good as a 535. There are 7 different picture modes: normal, beach/snow, scenery, soft focus, mirror image, night/dark, and sharp. You can take 48 full 1.3 images 960x1280, 179 med 480x640, and 405 low 240x320.

exactly... It's a cell phone not a digital canon eos 5D. I think the medium size low light pictures are fine. If I took the same picture of the car in low light with a 5600 you wouldn't see all black so the 9000 has improved but just not a lot.

I've only taken a few picturs so I think it's still kinda early to tell. I don't take that many night pictures. One thing I didn't like about the 535 is that in the day some pictures looked really good and others looked bad. I think the 9000 day shots might be better than the 535 day shots.

My big concern is how much of an improvement are indoor mormal lighting camera shots. I guess if the 9000 does that well outside in the dark then those ought fair much better than the 5600.

Those new night and indoor pics are not as bad as the 5600. They are actually decent for a camera phone. The ones in the beginning of the thread were similar to the 5600. Did you change anything in the settings?

I didn't change any settings. I noticed a smudge on the lens probally from the clear plastic that protects the lens when it's shipped. I cleaned it so I think that helped some along with I'm the things I'm taking a picture of are better. I think indoor low light full size pictures will not be as good as I was hoping for but if you resize it to medium I think it will look fine. I had similar results with the 535 camera. Sometimes I got really great shots and other times they didn't look as sharp.

wow the 5600.5 looks like a huge dissapointment in my book
Huge dissapointment? Why? The 9000 is a nice improvement from the 5600. I think the 9000 will be the best EV-DO phone for using the web for a little while because of the QVGA. I'll bet that Samsung will probally screw up the size of the font size on the 900 (blade) like they did on the a800. I don't really see the point to get a EV-DO phone that doesn't have a QVGA. Not to mention that I think the 9000 $379 price is decent. I'm thinking on trying the 6700 but not sure if it's worth $600.
It's funny that some of the 5600 diss the 9000. If the 9000 sucks so bad why did you get a 5600?

its not a dis its just a known fact that sanyo should have known goosh every 5600 owner knew that the cam sucked I think its just a dropped ball like a 1ton one right in the nuts for not fixing this cam on this handset hell the formfactor less a few little stripes make this phone more like a 5600.5 not something that should scream flagship.

I still think cell phones should be able to take good pics. If im in my bedroom with my light on the pics suck. I hate that... thats why i dont want the 9000 if the camera was more improved than my 5600 i was going to think about buying it. But b/c it is practically the same i dont want it and i think im gonna get the 940. It has more to it anyways.
Going foward, Sanyo will be forced to offer better cameras.
Now, the 9000 is just a bridge to have something to sell until 2006, when the real flagship is unvieled. Keep in mind Sanyo doesn't have large amounts of cash to spend on new designs/features every year.

Sanyo surely has more money than Toshiba, and Toshiba blew everyone away with the VM4050.
I think the 5600 looked pretty good. In fact, can I say I'm not too shot-in-the-rear with my MM535's camera? My VM4050 took more impressive pictures, though lower resolution, they tended to have better focus, contrast, and saturation.
Forgive me but I doubt you are privy to such information like Sanyo's internal funding allocations and the like.

The 8300 has VGA resolution (0.3 MP) while the 9000 has much better resolution at 1.3 MP. That is why the 9000 takes better pics than the 8300.

Tuo, I like how you posture that you are actually on tbakers side all the while you get in another plug for Samsung in a SANYO thread. You're pretty slick. Don't forget, it's stuff like that which caused you to get kicked off SU in the first place.
And last i checked, the 9000 has a camera and a camcorder. All it lacks is BT. But it does also have PTT and miniSD, which is better than transflash (nearly 2x the storage for the same price).

Are you talking about opinions? You care about what i think? I think that you don't have an apples-to-apples comparision of Sanyo vs. Samsung wireless R&D spending. In fact, I know you don't, you're just speculating based off a news article that doesn't quantify anything or mention wireless R&D spending.

You think for one second Sanyo has the R&D capital of Samsung?I hate to throw things off-topic, but this ideology makes absolutely no sense. There is no way, unless you have internal Sanyo sources, to determine their R&D capital spending based on some financial results. That'd be like saying GM can't design & produce as many new cars as Toyota, which would probably be your theory if you busted out GM's latest quarterly financials of debt and disappointing sales in comparison to Toyota, yet you'd be dead wrong. Much more to take into account than what a company earned last quarter. Now, to say that with Sanyo's current problems they simply won't risk putting out 20 new phones is a different story, doesn't mean they're incapable of doing so.
Aside from that, the 9000 is definitely an improvement over the 5600, especially the camera. 5600 owners' thoughts about upgrading to the 9000 are in no way an indicator as to whether the 9000 is "worth it" (though your personal feelings are your personal feelings), the 5600 has been discontinued and that argument is irrelevant. It's about you being a new customer going into the Sprint store, being handed a 5600 & 9000, and having to choose which handset you'd purchase. If you can honestly say that you would've picked the 9000 instead of buying your 5600, then Sanyo accomplished its mission of offering a good interim upgrade. Same with Motorola and the V710/E815.
And, as always, nice pics, tbaker'.

Sanyo is doing fine. Samsung is doing fine. Sanyo hits a different market, they dont get as much return, but they also dont lose much if something doesnt sell. Wait till the 2006 Sanyos and then take a look at 940. I bet you'll see somethings that the 940 can't do.
And I'll bet we'll see a Samsung/Moto like it as well.
