http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000777057087/
I Believe That T Mobile And Cingular Are Picking This Up And Will Be Releasing It Early Next Year. I AM GETTING THIS PDA ! if I Have To Leave Sprint To Do It I Will. I Have Been With Sprint Since 99' And They Have Been Good To Me. But I Am In Love With This PDA And I Am Getting It. Does Anyone Have Any Idea If Sprint Plans To Pick Up And Release The Universal. Dont Like The Way The 6700 Looks. I Need The Universal. Someone Give Me Good News.

There are rumors that Sprint is getting the HTC Universal? Where did you hear these rumors? I've heard nothing of the sort...

I've been under the impression (I believe from Chris Price over at pcsintel.com) that Sprint would NOT get another PPC smartphone just because
1) there is not enough market for TWO ppcs
2) there is not enough difference between the Universal and the Apache (6700) that would make it worthwhile
I could be wrong though...I just don't think it'll happen.
I Have Put In Some Time Trying To Locate Any Info On A US Release For The Universal. All I Have To Go On Is This :deal:

T Mobile Will Be Releasing The Wizard As Well As The Apache. I See What You Saying About The 6700. They Are Very Similar With Different Housings. I Just Really Hope Sprint Picks This Up. If Not, I Got To Be A Trader And Get It Some Where Else. :headbang2

They just need to switch out the radio, among other things. Don't forget.......the Universal's Screen res is VGA, not QVGA.....like the 6700. The Universal is the only phone that would make me want to converge; it has the same form factor as my current PDA.
Cingular Is Expected To Have A Couple Of HTC Models (Including Universal) As Well.

There is one other point to add to this argument.
3) SprNexIntTel's data system is not good enough yet to take full advantage of the abilities present in a CDMA version of the Uni, without crippling the device. Mr. Price theorized that if a Uni is offered, it would be around the time that Sprint (#) starts to activate Ev-DO Rev. A, in about a year or so. By that time, there should be a NBT (New Best Thing) that will make the current NBT old hat - be it better cameras (#), a built-in virtual keyboard (#) projector (#) or whatever.

I agree, why would sprint put the univeral out now? The PPc-6700 is going to appeal to a much wider audience. I love what I have seen on the Univeral and that's what I wanted. I don't care too much about the size (Geez ever seen a G1000?) as long as it had BT for a headset.
It's just a question of economics. Why pay HTC to make the Universal WM5 and CDMA. It's best for them to wait to next year and get the New Universal when they upgrade to Rev 1a. By then it'll be a little thinner and will probably appeal to a wider range of people.
(If they came out with the Universal Tommorrow on SPrint I would be first in line!)

I think there is plenty of difference between the 6700 and the Universal to justify offering both at the same time.
Having said that, I hope that they don't. Personally, I don't like the Universal, for many of the same reasons I don't like the 6700. I hope that this isn't a sign that the majority of PDA phones in the future will feature landscape kwyboards. I like being able to type with one hand.

I would love to own a Universal. I really wish there was a chance of Sprint carrying it.
On the landscape keyboard- keep in mind that Windows Mobile now supports the square screen. So there will be plenty of devices in the future that have a keyboard on the front of the device, right under the screen (like the Treo).

The only device I know of that is upcoming without a landscape keyboard is the Treo 700w.
If anyone knows of a device coming out with WM5 and a portrait keyboard besides the Treo, which I will avoid because of screen size/resolution (240x240 bleh), then please drop me a link.

I don't know of anything. But with the Treo being so popular, I can't imagine there not being any competition for it. There will probably be several similar devices released by other companies- now that Microsoft is making it easier with WM5 supporting the square screen...

How about this difference, I will buy a universal. I will not buy a 6700. (6100 owner)
Give me VGA or give me death!
