I am considering buying a pda type phone, this would be my first. I am interested in the PPC-6700 and have been reading some reviews. My main reason for a switch to a pda is just for the messenger service and ability to check email. If I could do this with a phone I would cancel my internet service at home since all I do is chat and email. I can keep up with sprintusers.com at work.
So, does msn messenger and yahoo messenger just run off of the vision service? I have unlimited vision on my account and would take advantage of that if it works the way I am assuming. And is the 6700 in stores yet?
Thanks in advance.

I have never used Yahoo! messenger so I can't tell you about it on the PPC though I'm 99% sure there are 3rd party programs (some free) that DO allow you to chat this way (heck, you can even use 3rd party programs to chat via Google Talk already...)
the 6700 comes with built in MSN which gives you easy access to Hotmail and MSN's chat service (once again, I don't use it but it looks nice enough).
I happen to use AIM when I can and that runs flawlessly (and is also free, if you download from the U.K. site).
If you use WebIS Mail, a 3rd party program, you can check all your email accounts at once (including Gmail). Great program.
I'm not a treo fan/user so I can't speak for that device though I'm fairly certain they having something comprable to the PPC.

The Treo has everything right now but the 6700 is lagging behind. It will probably only be a couple of months before the 6700 gets comparable programs that can do all of the chatting. WM5 is still very new and doesn't have a lot of apps yet.

"WM5 is still very new and doesn't have a lot of apps yet."
I'm not so sure about this. I have yet to install any program that did not work on WM5. In other words, most programs designed for WM2003 and 2003SE work on WM5. There are some nice ones that doon't (e.g. NetFront) but I have yet to not find any other software that won't work:
WM 2005 Compatiable Software (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=98578)
That's ummm....no small list for PPC and WM2005.
As far as chatting programs go, I'm not all to sure what constitutes "Verichat on the treo kicks anything in the PPC arena's ass" .
This little program (http://www.handango.com/AdminProductDetailView.jsp?siteId=1&jid=CAE1XCB31183332B55125EADF923X4FD&productId=71581&platformId=1&productType=2) does everything (AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Google Talk, Jabber support) that I could imagine that would be involved in "chatting" and it's totally free. I mean does Verichat peform Oral or somethingl? lol

Features specific to verichat, like using SMS for IMs when it's not using the data network, multiple accounts on the same network, bots, sending files, it's just far more advanced than just the typical "I'm online only when connected to the data network" app.

Try finding a threaded SMS app for the 6700 or an alternative browser. Not gonna happen. Still nothign available. Maybe by next year.

Alternate browsers are built in to the Treo? Really.
Look at the original question of this thread fanboy, it's not about how great you think the 650 is but about what you can/cannot do on the 6700.
All your great Verichat frippery does not make up for the fact you don't have ev-do OR even wi-fi and never will, not exactly a selling point if you're thinking of ditching your desktop ISP like the original poster is considering.
Also I'm not sure why an alternate browser is necessary since PIE works just fine.

EVDO is not in my area, so not a factor. I have a laptop, so don't need wifi. Why would the original poster need wifi if he only chats and does email? If he want's wifi, buy the wifi card. DUH! Malatesta, you seem like a fanboy. PIE sucks, can you save a picture from any website? Didn't think so. Enjoy your unintuitive KB. I love my 650. The 6700 is definately not worth the price IMO, wm 5.0 doesn't have anything OS 5 from Palm can't do (Well multitasking, but i can run music, im, and web in the background and that's all I need.) Also, the "X" doesn't close apps, it only minimizes. Looks like you have to buy another app :) And yes, you are right, alternative browsers aren't built in, but I think he was saying you can add them, but this is also available on the 6700. Long live the treo! Yes i am a fan boy

Jordan, who the hell cares about you or your opinion on the 6700 or the 650? This thread was meant to help the original poster...how'd it become about you, eh?
Stick to the topic at hand...which if you had even bothered to notice is not even an active thread anymore since the original poster has not even come back. Go start your own thread to rant about....see if anyone cares.
loser.
