we all saw the press release for verizon...i think it would be stupid for sprint to release this phone mid next year cause it will very outdated and new stuff will be out....so unless sprint is getting a whole new different version....wehn is it coming to sprint?

I haven't had the opportunity to try out windows mobile 5.0 yet, but I'm not sure I'd jump at the chance. I just got the treo650, and it so perfectly walks the line between phone and PDA that I honestly can't think of how a windows based device would, because it would be too windows-like. The beauty of the palm interface is the very thing that made google a success: simplicity.

Windows-like is the very thing that is wanted by a PPC user. I like the fact of being able to use and view Word/PPT/wmv/wma/Excel documents out-of-box.

That is the very thing that makes WM 5 a winner: compatibility.

...well, I'm not sure how much of a choice Sprint has. I believe, or so I have heard, that VZW has a 6-month-exclusive on the device. In any case, the phone/device will be outdated when it's released anyway, because there's always new technology on the horizon, even as I write this.

I tend to agree with argument, diskors. It will be more likely for SprNexIntTel to get the Universal - whatever name they give it for a CDMA model - than for them to pick up the 700w. By the time that the exclusitivity clause expires for the 700, they'll be preparing Ev-DO rev A. And the Universal is almost purpose-designed to take advantage of that.

pcsintel reported that Sprint is indeed going to be getting the Treo 700w sometime next year. They also reported that Sprint will be getting a Palm based Treo 700. And if I remember correctly (which I may or may not) I think they also reported that the Palm based Treo 700 would be available on Sprint around the same time that Verizon releases the Windows version.

Man, it sure would be nice if Sprint got an EVDO version of the Universal. Of course, there will probably be an even better device out next year that we're all drooling over. But as of this moment, an EVDO Universal would do me just fine...
