View Full Version : Help! Can't Access Most Websites!!

:bang:

I just purchased a Samsung PM 840 and I can’t access 95% of the sites that are important to me, primarily my company’s Outlook Website Access. Mapquest also doesn't work. I believe the common denominator is that all of the effected websites run scripts. Can someone please give me the low down on the web browsers in Sprint phones and what kind of phone and/or software that I will need to access a website that has scripts?

While in the Sprint store waiting for a sales person, I played around and found out that some of the multi media phones had no problems with my websites as well as all the PDA phones. After my 45 minute wait, the Sprint Sales person told me that all of their web browsers are the same and the reason I couldn’t access the websites was because of the manner in which the website was developed. He repeated this a couple more times even though I showed him one phone that had the website and my phone which had an error message. There wasn’t anyone else in the store with any better technical knowledge so I ended-up wasting a lunch hour.

Thanks

sorry for your negative experience. i find it very rare to find a knowledgable sprint store rep. it is so frustrating everytime i go in there to find out how little they really know. having been around this site for over 2 years, i guarantee that some of the folks here can help you out way more than going to the sprint store. anyway, just wanted to rant.

i had the 840 for a day and i hated it since vision was just a joke. i don't know what that rep is smokin; all of the browsers on sprint phones are NOT the same. i've had issues w/samsung browsers in particular which is why i stay away from that phone. i find that the openwave (LG) and netfront (Sanyo) browsers are the decent ones.

Yeah i had the VGA1000 aka A620 i got so many browser errors that i ended up changing the phone in 4 months. When did you buy the phone? You have 14 days to return it and get a different phone. Since browsing the web is important to you I would recommend the mm7400 or the mm8300 they both have large heap memorys. Or wait for the EVDO handsets to launch.

Have you tried PocketWeb? They have a trial you can download and see if you can access the sites you need to access. If it works for you, you can purchase it for $12.99 for a year's licsence. I've been able to view every html page I've been to, but it too doesn't support java scripts (or any type of scripts I think). It's pretty nice though and doesn't take long for the page to load.

I think you'd have to get a phone capable of PCS Business Connection, like the, VI-660; RL-7300 or Treo 650.

In general, the browsers supplied with Vision phones are not advertised as full-fledged HTML browsers, but rather junior versions meant primarily for Sprint's own Vision-optimized Web pages as well as WAP-based sites. That said, I can easily believe that the browsers supplied with recent multimedia phones are more capable than those supplied with older or lower-end phones.

Recent PDA phones come with, or can be loaded with, fuller browsers. Most Vision phones can be loaded with fuller browsers written in Java/J2ME/MIDP--browsers like WebViewer, PocketWeb, and Opera Mini. Unfortunately, various phone models have various problems with all of these, and even for a given phone model, some users have more luck than others. In short, it's a big mess.

Well for the Treo 650 what is the BEST browser to use? I'm in the market to upgrade to a 650 from a BB (NEXTEL SUCKS!!! AND IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE:irked: )

Also, does anyone know of any deals (rebates and such) that are going on for the 650? I've got to get two and that cost is a killer.

Thanks,

I think the Treo's use AvantGo as standard. It's been a while since I've used my PDA, but I used to love Thunderhawk.

They have a free 30-day trial. Worth checking out, I think.

*EDIT*

Oh, and I agree. Most of the people at my company use Blackberries. They are the crappiest things ever. In order to get somewhat-full operatability out of them, you really need the Blackberry Enterprise Server; those desktop clients don't work worth a damn. It's just not worth it.

I agree. Thunderhawk is a very fast and capable browser.

i just downloaded thunderhawk last night for my 6600 and its faster, easier, and better looking than the standard IE, which i thought was still a good browser for a phone.

Thanks, looks like I'll be using Thunderhawk. They did say that the Blazer was good to use, but I'll look at Thuderhawk. Any suggestions on email clients for the 650? I've been looking and the Agendus Pro looks like the best bet for me as I work for myself and have lots of contacts and customers.

I know a lot of people use VersaMail. I know two people who use SnapperMail and love it. Looking at Agendus, it seems like a pretty good program. I like the interface a lot, too. Unfortunately, I haven't used a Palm since... uhhh... man, a really long time ago, so I don't have any first-hand experience with any of these programs.
