I'm a newbie and I have the toshiba vm4050. I have the image uploading figured out, but I can't create any good quality ringers. I think qcp is the best my phone has. any suggestions?

Sure ... I also have a vm4050 ... it can use MP3's renamed as MID and they sound great ... I'll send you a PM with the details.

For the 4050, I am finding that you supposedly can just rename the extension of an mp3 to .mid.
The most helpful post I've found is here:

Yes, I use an MP3 ringer on my Toshiba VM4050. The two crucial points to remember are:
1) The ringer file must be renamed with a .mid extension.
2) The ringer file cannot be larger than 100KB or so. (I forget the precise limit, but it's around there.) So to get a full 30 seconds (which is probably the limit) while keeping the file small, I encode the MP3 at 32kbps and mono.
I haven't done this in a long time, so my recollection is a bit rusty. I think it's written up in some older posts, though.
Hi. How do you send these .mid to your phone? I have been using www.mbuzzy.com to send the ringtones to my phone but the quality is horrible. I think it's mbuzzy that ruins the quality by converting it or something. Can you please let me know if there is another way to send ringtones from PC to phone w/o using usb cables? Thanks!

Read this thread on making ringtones if you need it:
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58361
And then you can use one of these uploaders to send it to your phone:

Whoa, whoa whoa - the 4050 will support MP3 ringers if renamed? Very interesting, we are going to try to setup an Mp3 stream with P2M and see if it will support it over JAVA as well... This would be amazing...

Yep ... I've been doing it for over 1 year ... I do keep the size small though, around 50k by setting the bit rate at 16k (and mono) ... It still sounds 10 times better than a qcp.
Let us know about the streams ... sound VERy interesting ....:mobile:

Hi everyone! I have just received the Toshiba VM4050 phone but the internet is all screwed up and there is no way to fix it. I'll buy a data cable then. What do I need to do in order for me to put my (already converted) .mid files from the computer to the phone? Do I need an installation CD or something else? Or by just connecting the USB cable, it will automatically send the file to my phone? Can I do the same with downloaded (obviously supported) game? thanx!

Assuming it's supported for your phone, Google for BitPim. It's free.
