Sprint officially now supports international SMS...if you goto the website (link: http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/ueContent.jsp?scTopic=textMessaging ) it gives you the country codes. There is no extra charge for sending or receiving, and it just goes against your bundle of messages. If you dont have an SMS package, its $.10 like always.

Been SMS to Hong Kong and I really like it. However, I hope Sprint/Nextel doesn't go and adopt the Verizon Wireless policy where there is big dollar signs when a subscriber wants to SMS outside of the United States.

all my friends in germany are getting @-symbols instead of my actual message right now, even though the network they're on is officially supported by SPRINT now. :( emailed them about it, curious what their reply will be.

well its been semi working for a while...just official now...kinda like EVDO having bigger coverage then what the map shows
Site say not working for shortmail. Looks like I lose out.
Why lose out? Just upgrade to an SMS enabled phone? Shortmail is so 20th century anyways. LOL!

Okay, here's how I text people in the UK:
UK country code: 44
Number from within Britain: 07yyy-xxxxxx
You drop the leading zero when texting the UK... so it becomes
011-44-7yyy-xxxxxx
Not sure about other countries though.

I would just put the whole thing just to be on the safe side...then again, I dont know anyone in India to try that on...I know it works in UK
i don't have a computer so i can't look up the codes. can anyone tell me the one for uk

The UK is 44.
So do you think we'll get some sort of advance warning if the price for international SMS goes above the standard rate, or are we just suddenly going to get smacked with a huge bill? Out of curiosity, what are other companies charging for it?
i tried to send a txt to a friend in the uk but they never got it. i did the 1144 then the number but still no go
Deval

dont you have to put the +?
Moogle
10-29-2005, 07:27 PM
dont you have to put the +?
Yeah... either use
+ or 011
I.E:
+447xxx-yyyyyy
or
011447xxx-yyyyyy
(where xxx is the mobile network id and yyyyyy is the number -- so if the number in the uk is 07123-123456.... dial 0114407123-123456 or +447123-123456)

dont you have to put the +?
How do you type a + sign in when entering a number to text? Isn't it number digits only?
Also how are you supposed to send an international text message from the Sprint web site? It says enter only 10 digits max. and won't send because there's too many digits.
i tried to send a txt to a friend in the uk but they never got it. i did the 1144 then the number but still no go
Same here. Didn't work and I did everything I was supposed to.

Does anyone know why you can send sms messages to hong kong without problems but when a hong kong cell tries to sms you back, it never arrives. Tried both replying to my sms mesage and using my actual number, nothing seems to work in sending an sms from hk to a sprint US phone.
