View Full Version : Editing AAC Files?

I know you can use a program to edit mp3 files for time and such for ringtones, but most of my audio files are already in aac. Is there a way to edit the files in aac format so I don't have to convert to mp3 and then back to AAC?

Thanks,
Ross

the programs out there to do that are commercial, the best bet is to convert the AAC to uncompressed WAV and edit them then convert back to AAC. that way you wont be loosing any quality.

Deval has a good tutorial on AAC and a program for converting on the forum, I cant find it maybe someone else can post it for you. if you have the codecs for playing AAC on the PC, you could probably play the file in winamp and choose the wave output to file instead of speaker. which would give you a wav file for editing. then use whatever free program to modify it.

Deval's FAQ is a sticky right at the top of this forum:

Don't know if it will be much help for what the OP is trying to do, but it might help.

I would just use quicktime, I think you have to have PRO to use the editing feature. I think its an all IN 1 tool when it comes to making AAC ringers.

QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows : Price: $29.99

if you can fork out 30 bux that would work out, although there are so many alternatives to getting it done for free.

Nah I was just messing around. You can use a demo of NERO WaveEditor. Most of the time nero comes with all cd-burners that you buy.

If you use Nero Wave Editor, you can rename the AAC file for a .MP4 extension (instead of .M4A), then it will let you edit the file and you can save as or save the changes, then rename back to .M4A
