My last phone was the Sanyo 5300 of which I'll be comparing my new phone to.

Size: The A840 is a small phone. In fact, it seems I've just went from a tank to a Mini Cooper. The 5300 with the extended battery is huge compared to the Samsung. The intennae also makes the Samsung's footprint smaller.

Battery Life: I only used the "big battery" with the 5300 so It's not a fair comparison. The Samsung seems to hold it's battery juice well considering I use vision a lot during the day. I've only had it on the charger once in the eight days I've had the phone.

Reception: Here is where I'm much happier. I haven't had any problems with reception with the Samsung. With the 5300 I had dropped calls constantly in the same 3 block area near my job and could not get any service in the BX on Tinker AFB. With the Samsung I have full reception in the BX and the dead spot near my job is fully alive with the Samsung.

Screen: Of course the screen size of the 5300 beats the Samsungs hands down. The Samsungs screen is beautiful for a STN. The colors jump off of the screen right at you. The ghostly lines are there when looking at the screen from an angle, but It's very noticeable on my 5300 too. I don't think that descrepancy is exclusive to Samsung phones. While I love the monochromatic display of the outer lcd, I don't like the screen going completely dark. On the 5300 with it's outer color display, when the screen goes dark, you can still see the signal, battery strength and time. As mentioned in Smitty's reveiw, there is no Caller ID pics on the outer screen. You just see name, number, and a picture of a phone. I do love the white color of the numbers and icons on the Samsungs outer screen. It matches the Silver and Black color of the phone perfectly. It also matches all of my Raider gear :headbang2

Camera: The Samsung takes very good pictures compared to other phones. Right now I prefer the 5300's camera. I think that phone has one of the best cameras on a phone ever. Maybe when I play with the settings more my feelings will elevate towards the Samsung. As for now, I say it's a camera phone that takes decent pictures----for a camera phone.

Speakerphone: The speaker phone is my new baby. I've used it with on just about all of my contacts this week and so far everyone says they heard me loud and clear. I love the fact you don't have to open the phone to activate the speaker due to the dedicated button on the side of the phone. The voice dial feature is great. You don't have to set up voice for each individual # on your contact list as I did on the 5300. You just say the name or # and it dials with no problem everytime. It's also cool when you go through menus using voice instead of buttons. I think the phone has to be open when you do that.

Call quality: I would have to say call quality is excellent compared to my 5300. On my 5300 I had to move the ear piece around to a sweet spot. With the Samsung voices are loud and clear as soon as the ear piece is near my ear. So far everyone tells me I sound as though I'm on a land line without the hollow sound the Sanyo put out.

Vision: Being that I'm coming from the 5300, vision is a lot faster. The sites I visit most would sometimes take 1 minute to load on the 5300, where as, on the Samsung I'm there in 10 seconds. It's also a relief to have SMS now instead of the ancient slow as molasses Short Mail. I don't think I have to compare those two items for you at all.

The extras, such as, the motion screen savers are really cool. As Smitty mentioned, the motorcycle one is tight. I'm a cycle enthusiast, so I bet you can guess what's on my screen right now. :) The ringers kind of suck as expected. There will be lot's of downloading in the near future. The games are demos of Tetris, Bowling and Ms. Pacman. Those have been deleted for the full games I'll be downloading. There is also the ability to add 10 pics for a slide show screen saver. The phone also has incoming Call tone capability. That feature enables you to download music or voices(jokes, etc.) that callers will hear instead of the standard ring sound when calling you.

There are tons more features I might have missed being that I've only had the phone for a week. I haven't experienced any bugs so far. Today I have to say I'm very happy with this phone and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a new phone.
